True, Yoda...they don't have to be the same company. But considering that both ECost and PcMall/MacMall/IdeaMall are situated at the identical address, that does increase the odds that they are, just a bit :)

IdeaMall, Inc.
2555 W. 190th Street
Torrance, CA 90504

eCOST.com
2555 W. 190th Street
Torrance, CA 90504

Edit: oops...now I'd say odds are 100% that PCMall.com, MacMall.com, eCOST.com, eLinux.com and ComputAbility.com are more than casually related: The Mall Family

Are you guys sure that the LCD reviewed in CNet is the same one w/ the one being sold at PCMall/Ecost? Looking at the picture, I don't think they're the same product. Oh wait, PCMall just updated the product info page, and I guess it is the same. When I bought it, the manufacturing # was different. So do you guys think this is worth it? I bought it already, will arrive next week. Anybody got theirs yet?

I noticed yesterday that ecost had these on sale for another 22 hours and they were only going to sell 100 of them and that 100 was down to like 72. Well today on the timed countdown offers there is 23 hours and 57 min left to the sale and 100 left to sell. It just smells. I guess I will pass on them. I bet they are refurbs or something. I thought I would egay 1 but it smells to. This stevefugazi guy is bidding on every one of these acer flat panels and he has bought 3 or 4 of them for like 1300 to 1400 each. He has a -3 rating and every feedback written about him is not good. He refuses to pay for monitors he bids on. So I don't know what the market is on these because he is buying all of them. Oh well there will be better deals soon enough.

I wouldn't put any trust in anything shown on their site. It is my belief that ECost does not have real-time inventory tracking capabilities on their Web site, and that they do not stock their own merchandise...when I ordered the aforementioned Sony CPD-G400 Monitor from them last year, they showed it as being in stock. A full WEEK later, when I saw that it hadn't shipped, I called and was told by the retarded CSR that my monitor had to be ordered, and that they "expect it to arrive in our warehouse in a week, IF it comes in that shipment"...then from there it would ship to me. When I finally did receive it, more than 2 weeks after the order was placed, every indication was that it came from Sony directly, and not from ECost. I hate dealing with companies that don't have the ability to tell the truth.

thanks callgirl, I am glad I got my order cancelled. It is not worth the aggrevation. Even though an 18 inch flat panel would be so cool.

Grinch,
The picture looks pretty darn good to me.There is the noticable "softness" to the text that is standard with all LCD screens.I went out to a few stores comparing today and didn't see anything
That really put it to shame. So far i have watched Stigmata and sleepy hollow on it and played a few levels of alice, and it looks pretty nice.I thought at first it wasn't going to be that hot after reading the comments already posted but i've got no complaints. The USB hub is kinda cool too.The dvd playback isn't jerky at all(im using a 32 mg prophet mx)and it looks as good as any other dvd iv'e seen through a lcd.I'm happy with it and others at the studio we got them for have remarked on the good picture and how much easier it is on the eyes.

Thanks RSM,

That made me feel better for buying a $1000 monitor... :)
I was really afraid that I'm going to get a crappy monitor for $1000. I bought it last week, but won't get it until Thursday. So hopefully it will be as good as you say...
Anybody else got theirs yet?

The description is so funny:
Acer & IBM are the manufacturers of this 18.1" flat panel LCD display. They built this monitor for major manufacturers. Unfortunately for them, they built too many - their mistake is your gain! Never before have we been able to offer this quality 18.1" flat panel LCD display for under $1000! Order yours today.. these will NOT last!

I suspect they're not over built, they're B grade instead.
I don't see a brand name and model number mentioned.
The pic shows no logo on the monitor.

RSM, maybe you could call acer with your Serial number and find out if it was a grade B monitor or refurb and verify the warranty. Just seems like a great deal....

Hello RSM. I was just wondering the LCD has a response time of 50ms which translate to about 20fps.
How is that good for playing DVDs when it's at 24fps.

Also, the games that run at higher than 60fps: does it ruin the fun?

Thanks.

HJL-To be honest im not one of those guys that sits around measuring fps etc.I just look at it and if it looks good i go with it.If you can name a couple of the games you mean i'll see about trying them out.But i've run plenty of dvds now and they look great. So have my games.I 'm really suprised at all the people who want to piss all over these, especially when they have never tried them.Especially at this price.I guess some people just aren't happy until someone hands them a 32 inch widescreen for 4.00 and then gives a 600.00 rebate.Maybe then it's a warm deal.We all know the limitations of lcds. This is as good as any i've used and blows the doors off ones i've seen for more.End of story.

Okay.. what's the response time anyway? Y do people translate it to 20fps? Granted that 1/50ms is 20Hz. I thought the response time is the time for the monitor to response when the monitor is turned on? Just like the response time for hard drive. I don't know, I could be wrong. Here's another fact the Samsung SyncMaster 770TFT also has response time <50ms, and people has been saying how awesome it is.
Another fact, I've been playing DVD movies (Matrix, Batman, etc) and playing games (UT, Porche NFS, & FF8) on this monitor and they all look great, no skipping or anything.
With that note, I think this is an awesome deal.

Ok guys. Thanks for your info.
By the way, where did you get the monitor?PCMALL or ECOST?
They both offer the same monitor for the same price. Ecost gives you free shipping I think.

Is there any advantage of choosing one from the other?

We used pcmall and ebates to get a little money off. They don't qualify for free shipping though. The studio i work for is probably gonna let one go since thier not expanding as much as they thought.Check the for sale forum if your interested.
