I don't believe that is a 170 mph collision with a tree. Certainly not head on. The car looks like it must have spun into the alledged tree sideways, but by no means is that a 170 mph collision with anything. 40 mph would take that front end off and all that fiberglass.170mph would have exploded the windshield, even side ways. Some one is trying to pull a fast one here, friends.:Q

<< Just like the McLaren F1...at least 5 have been in wrecks at speeds approaching 200MPH. Each owner has walked away (prolly crying though) >>

that's because McLaren F1's are manufactured by God himself.

Damn trees!

I hit a tree a few years back in my '89 Mustang at 90mph. I smashed the whole front right of my car, that tree outline must of gone about four feet into the car. The thing that pisses me off is that the stupid tree stayed standing. I think it was leaning before a little and I ended up straightening it up.

I walked away, but was hurting like hell from the seat belt.

this might clear some things up:

<< He hit the tree on the passenger side. The driver doesn't own the car! It was loaned to him by a friend who is a Chrsyler excec! It was towed into my shop on two flatbeds! He said that he lost control at 170mph, I don't know at what speed he hit the tree >>

The speed at impact was probably closer to 80mph

I wonder what the first words out of that guys mouth were after it was all over?
"Oops my bad." [hands over keys to owner] "See ya later."

I agree, running into a tree doesn't do that sort of damage. It looks like a giant butcher knife sliced that baby up right in front of the windshield. Look at the front of that car...it doesn't even have a damn dent.

Hopefully that rich boy won't get any insurance dollars because he was going 170mph in the first place;). Yeah, I'm just jealous... Gimme' a break.

Pretender,

A friend of mine in the early 80's crashed his 'vette into a tree about 12" in diameter. Best I could figure, he was running about 70 - 80, maybe 90 mph in a curve (going to the left), ran off the right side of the road and panicked. Upon doing so, he jerked the wheel to the left to get her back on the road, which then caused the car to spin out of control. Somehow, and I still can't figure it out, he ended up spinning to the left towards the inside of the curve, went up a 10' embankment into a person's yard and hit a tree just in front of the right passenger door and windshield. Cut the car right in half, except for leaving it hanging on about 1 inch of the frame below him. Tore the floorpans out of the car, threw the engine about 100 - 150 ft into a neighbors yard. The passenger had both of his ankles severely broken, but lived to tell about it. My friend wasn't so lucky. His head hit the tree, killing him instantly :( He was a great kid.

I had warned him not to drive that car when he was upset about his girlfriend, which he was at the time he was killed. Four days later is when the accident happened.

So you see, a tree can do extensive damage to a car. What happened to that viper looks very much like it hit a tree. The guy that walked away from that, was indeed, very lucky.

BTW, the tree my friend hit was only lightly damaged.

Rest in peace my friend.
