I have had 3 APC UPS's over the last 10 years, all worked great. One was the small type with no replaceable battery and it died after 5 years or so. The second took a close lightning strike, and saved my PC, at least everything except the modem. I got all of them at Sam's club. My third one is oddly shaped, flat in front, and sloped in back. I think it was 89 bucks.

120 bucks isn't bad. The cost and hassle of replacing the first drive it saves is worth that, IMO.
 
yes, i agree, getting a apc model.

trying to figure out the difference between --

Back-UPS RS 1000VA model #BR1000
Back-UPS XS 1000VA model #BX1000

both look identical and priced the same, about $140 or so.

edit to answer tasburrfoot78362 question, one pc is a 350w ps, the other is a 300w ps

BX-1000 lack of RJ-45 jack for network surge protection, although has modem protection

BR-1000 is the next model up and offers network protection and boost and trim AVR capability rather than relying on battery power in an overvoltage system as the XS model does.

Meh, sorry about that. It was for the RAID neffing thread and not this one. Just strange. I've got a CyberPower 1100 model that has been rather nice to me... I really have it more for filtering than backup power though.
