Just wanted some opinions on this. Got a 1700 t-Bred overclocked to 2.4 ghz. Thinking about buying a mobile barton 2500+ to overclock. I'm thinking the performace increase will not be worth the cost. Opinions?

I don't think it'll be worth your time or money. Unless you do it for fun, but I doubt you'd even notice the difference.

10-20% difference IMO. If you're lucky you'll hit 2700mhz but that's extremely rare. You'll probably hit 2500mhz.

I was in the same situation as you, because I had a xp1800@2300 11.5x200. But then I purchased a 2500xp barton (locked) and OC'ed it to 3200xp (11x200=2200). For me windows seems to load a bit faster and is a little snappier. A big difference is when I encode DVDs, because it takes less time than before. I got a good deal on the 2500xp which is the reason I upgraded.

So if you want to upgrade it depends on what you are doing. If you are just going to be playing games and surfing the web, I say dont upgrade because there won't be a noticable difference. But if you plan on doing some video editing and the such there might be a slight increase but not enough to spend an extra $50-$70.

Always remember that the bartons also have more cache on them which will yield a performance increase at the same clock speeds.

Personally tho, i wouldnt do it.

you might get an extra 100 or 200mhz and a good 10% boost in some things from the cache but the difference in most things probably won't be noticeable enough.
