$1700 for QX6700 at Newegg - Ridiculous

Look at this - I didn't expect that Newegg would begin price gouging for a popular product. Yesterday it was $1499, today it's $1699. To think the MSRP is "only" $999, this is ridiculous. I know that opportunists sell PS3s for twice their MSRP, but I didn't expect a reputable site like Newegg to use the same tactics for this processor. This why I don't follow the blind Newegg followers and buy without comparison shopping.

I picked up an ES from a dealer/reviewer who sold one to me for 650 bucks.....I should sell it 1000+...hahahaha...

Screwegg has been doing this more and more....I think maybe their CEO went to school with boys from Haliburton and the Oil companies....

Can you find retail QX6700 in stock and shippable from any other seller at any price? What does comparison shopping mean when no one has retail parts to sell you except Newegg?

Demand meets supply, the mediator is price.
 
I beleive I asked for link to retail not OEM...as that is the product with the price in question. Everyone knows tigerdirect has OEM in stock, but that is not the question nor the OP's topic.
 
Newegg is cutting their own throats with their recent pricing practices.

I used to buy all my stuff from them but my C2D came from Zipzoomfly.com and my new RAM is coming from Chiefvalue.com and my new motherboard from Buy.com with the Google checkout.

I will buy from whoever ships it cheapest to my door. Newegg isn't exactly the best place to RMA from either so that's two strikes against them. They better shape up or even Tigerdirect is gonna kick their butts, lol.

I've heard that too but don't know for sure.

 
Im convinced Newegg and Chief are related and not because I heard it from other people. I came to the conclusion myself. I dont know if its true anymore but in the past their inventories where almost exactly the same even down to the odd refurbished or hard to find items.
Usually a combination of newegg and chiefvalue will get you the best prices but occasionally mwave zzf and ewiz have better prices.
 
Newegg owns Chiefvalue.

Scaling price with demand so that they barely stay in stock is fine by me. Think about the people who can afford one but can't find one in stock.

Don't believe me? If it's out of stock at newegg, it's out of stock at Chief Value.

And if you buy from both, look at the addresses

if you want a quad core bad enough you should pay for it.
it not l;ike newegg always has high prices. on many items (once there a few weeks old and in stock) newegg prices are the cheapest anywhere.

I believe they are the same and didn't mean to derail this thread on a Newegg vs. ChiefValue argument.

My point remains that Newegg better watch themselves with these pricing games. It sucks to see prices fluctuate daily like the stock market. It makes it hard to plan purchases and when buy time comes just irks the buyer to see a price shoot up overnight... hence my Zipzoomfly.com and Buy.com purchases.

Newegg is getting just a little too greedy.

I hear ya...i never like to put stuff on the CC so i always try to be sure i can pay for what i buy online with my debit. That means I have to wait a couple days and the price can move $50+ at a time.

Your credit card could care less. It's your wife that you'd have to worry about.😉 And yeah, newegg seems to be getting worse by the day/month with their prices on hard to find new items.

Doesn't price have something to do with "hard to find new items"...as in too low a price makes too high a demand makes supply go to zero thus rendering locating the item "hard"?

The logical extremes of supply and demand are usually not seen in retail establishments, though, especially not when an MSRP is attached to the item in question.

Examples include the PS3 and Wii, both of which generated demand greater than initial supply could fulfill. Retail establishments still sold the items according to standard pricing policies despite this demand. Of course, many turned around and sold units at inflated prices on auction sites and internet marketplaces, buet the retailers thmselves held to the MSRP.

Retailers usually opt to stick to the MSRP on manufactured retail items to avoid alienating the consumer who expects to pay prices at or below the MSRP regardless of supply/demand dynamics. After all, in the case of high demand, manufacturers are supposed to be able to meet demand through increased production. Any consistent failure to meet demand on the part of the manufacturer is held to be the result of incompetence or dishonesty.

In NewEgg's case, whatever profits they reap from gouging on QX6700 prices will not likely be worth the ill will they generate in the process. It is better for them to sell out while charging the MSRP than it is for them to make a few extra thousand dollars while tarnishing their reputation.
 
Price gouging may be both expected and common with special, low-supply items, but that doesn't mean it's right.

Buying an OEM from NewEgg and not paying the $498649568467400 extra for retail makes sense when you can spend the money you're saving on an aftermarket cooler anyway.

As for me, I can afford three of them! I'm going to buy one to brush my moustache with! *puffs pipe, quaffs the finest wines known to mankind, takes snuff*.
