hi! i have some crazy problems

the fastest i can get into windows xp with is:

vcore-1.75V (default)
mult-11
fsb-158Hz
overall-1.74gHz

with my

asus a7v8x-x
an unlocked amd 1700+
PNY 512mb pc2700

isn't this abominidble? i mean, shouldn't i be able to run stably at speeds around 2.23gHz?

but also, after messing around with that stuff, my motherboard reports my processor's identification string as

AMD Athlon(TM) MP 1800+

what the heck???

What stuff did you mess with? What is the chip's code? like "AXDA1700DLT3C WPMW0310... "

i only touched the fsb and multiplyer

how do figure out my chip's code? i don't have to pop off the hsf do i?

the 'microcode patch id' is 0662... whatever that means? hope that helps

Yes you'll need to pop the HSF off. The code is to identify what chip you have, and approximately how far you can overclock it.

k, thanks for the help so far. i have to go in a few minutes, so i don't have enough time to get into my hsf... i also forgot to mention that i'm running at the default 1.75V of the processor (which i guess means it's not a thoroughbred)

That's a good OC, for a 1700 Palomino! I've got one that won't go that high, if you want to swap.;)
