1700+ abnormalities

I'm running my 1700+ at 167.5 * 12 for 2010MHz @ default voltage without problems (running seti for 24hrs without problem). If I up the FSB any higher than 170, I can't POST, even at 1.85V.

With the multiplier at 12.5, ~133FSB is max.
With the multiplier at 15, I can't up the FSB any higher than ~110
With the multiplier at 24, FSB 100-105, Vcore@1.85, I can boot to windows, and BSOD at login.

Any suggestions on what I might change in order to POST at higher than 12x167.5?

first of all... running SETI for 24 hours isn't enough to test the stability of your chip...

i would try running prime95 for at least 6 hours and then run memtest86 for about 10 loops...

2010@ default voltage is pretty good..

what ram are you using? that might be holding you back...

and i wouldn't try to use anything more than about 1.8vcore but that's just me...

not that the crucial ram is bad...

but i think you might have hit a wall on your ram...

you can try:

1. run memtest86 and see if you get errors.... and if you do ... then
2. up the vdimm voltage from default to a higher value...

run memtest86 again and see if you have errors...

hope that helps...

Shouldn't there not be any problem with overclocking the CPU if the RAM stays at its default speed? (ie. not in sync with the FSB)

i don't think it's a good idea to run them out of sync... i've never heard of anyone running them out of sync... i believe it'd be best to run your ram and fsb in sync....

maybe that's where your problem lies....

and how do you have access of mults of 15x ... did you mod your 1700+ .... cuz it's locked after 12.5x... but i'm sure you knew that..

yeah he modded it

anyways, dont cripple the athlon any more by running ram LOWER then the cpu fsb lol
higher is ok if you can...if not a 1:1 ratio is always better than having cpu fsb>ram

even if yo uhave lower mult than 12, it wont post at higher than 170fsb?

if not, i think you may have hit a wall...
how is mobo/northbridge?maybe better cooling or take off stock cooling and apply as2/as3 or something would help out

I've gotten it to post at 24x105, but not stable..

Bah, I guess I'm stuck till I can test some decent RAM then.
That is.. Unless you have some other ideas as to what I could test?

I think your ram quality is fine...but you are trying to get pc2100 ram (133mhz) to push up to 170ish which is kinda hard..

Get some crucial pc2700 ram - I am running it at 172 FSB at 7-3-3-2.5 with no cooling or whatnot. I could push the FSB even higher but its my t-bred that won't go past 1.8ghz

But if you are serious about ocing (especially if that is a t-bred B) get some Corsair XMS.... :)

and always run the memory in sync

There are fixed proportions when you set the FSB and memory to certain speeds, even if they are not the identical speed.

The RAM does not stay at it's default speed. Neither does PCI or AGP (which may be your problem). If you OC the FSB, it goes up in proportion. If you OC the FSB 10%, the other speeds go up 10%. If the memory was set to 100, it goes up 10% from there.
