Got it. Love it. I run HDMI from my TV tuner and DVD player to the TV and then send digital optical from the TV to the reciever. I don't want my reciever to do the switching.

YMMV in comparing this to a refurb deal direct from Onkyo. This is also not necessarily $170 shipped if you live in Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, or Washington.

If you've purchased and registered previous Onkyo products you can use ClubOnkyo points toward your purchase. My refurb'd TX-SR504B will be here on Friday for $134 (w/ no tax & free shipping).

Bear in mind that this Amazon deal is a new receiver. Direct from Onkyo, those are $299.00... this definitely makes it a hot deal for a new receiver.

Does anybody know if you can hook up the Klipsch Ultra 5.1 satellites to this receiver? I'm thinking yes, but I am not sure... the Klipsch's sub probably not... right?

Thanks!

A couple issues:
Might have ground loop problems hooking up the sub
If you're using a computer as a source, hooking up to the multichannel analog input might give you some issues.

Ah, multichannel analog - have a mono splitter on hand for the center/sub :)

Personally, I think the lack of HDMI is a plus. I'd rather stick with component for as long as I can at 1080i and not have 'the man' telling me how I can watch my TV and movies.

Good price on a great receiver.

Excellent price on this receiver. I have one and my only gripe is the clicking I get almost every time I change a channel on my digital cable box. It could be the cable box cuz it's got other issues as well but I've heard others have this same problem.

its a good receiver, I have it as part of one of onkyo's 7.1 kits, which are generally hard to beat for the price. While I agree that hdmi and hdcp do have some issues I cant see a recever not having them being a plus, if you don't want to use them then don't but if you move components around that can make use of the ports 1 hdmi cable is allot easier to move then 3 component cables + 1 digital coax or optical and more components will be using/requiring digital inputs over the next few years. I would not buy a new receiver without hdmi output (and probably not one without hdmi up conversion) but if you are looking for 7.1 on a budget and don't foresee using hdmi in the near future then this is a great deal.

This is a pretty good deal. For those getting this to setup a decent HT... These speakers from amazon are pretty good...

BIC America DV62si Bookshelf Speakers

Can do a mod on them *look on the net* Send Fred your X-overs and he will mod them and ship them back for about 40 bucks. Supposedly it gets rid of the brightness and smooths them out. But Some people prefer a bright speaker...

Edit oh yeah and free shipping on these too...

:p

Personally I wouldn't get another reciever unless it had HDMI. My TV only has one HDMI input so I'm probably going to need a switcher eventually. For now I just have my computer hooked up via VGA.

edit: Onkyo makes good stuff though. Good price if you don't need the HDMI.

hmmm this does not look good for gaming on analog with a PC. Maybe I am blind but I don't see analog inputs that you would use to connect to a creative sound card in the pictures.

It has 7.1 analog input on it. It's about in the middle on the bottom to the left of the LFE Pre-out.
