So maybe there's a chance of passing the first infrastructure bill after all.

The orange menaced Covid-19 accomplice serial killer, threatened to primary
any republican that supported Pres Biden's infrastructure bill.
I guess that didn't work out too well.

17 senators crossed the aisle and voted to advance it.

Trump threatened to primary GOP lawmakers who favor the bipartisan infrastructure plan. 17 Republicans
just voted to advance it, including Mitch McConnell

Trump, who tried throughout his presidency to pass his own infrastructure bill, has railed against negotiations in recent days,
telling Republican lawmakers to skip the talks - not, it seems, because of any specific issues with the content of the bill, but
because passage of the bill would be "a victory for the Biden administration and Democrats and...heavily used in the 2022 election."

Fat POS
""Don't do it Republicans - Patriots will never forget!" he wrote. "If this deal happens, lots of primaries will be coming your way."

What's crazy is Mitch is seeming a little less evil that he used to. No way in hell he would've voted for this under Obama.

McConnell painted himself in a corner. I legit think for all Manchin's obstinence, had McConnell pulled the football again, Manchin probably threatened behind the scenes to go nuclear.

Yeah if that's the case would have opened the door to Manchin nuking the filibuster, and then McConnell gets stuck with DC and Puerto Rico as states and loses a bit of the enormous partisan advantage the GQP has in the senate map.

Mitch might be trying to make Trump look bad, and is maybe thinking of running for pres in 2024. Wonder how a Mitch vs. Biden 2024 election would be like, maybe a Bob Dole (was less than a year old, and only know that it was a weird election from old SNL videos) running once again. Wonder who Ross Perot would be this time, Trump's son?

Why on earth would Mitch need to run for president? More power than he already has? Reality, try it.

Trump's golden finger of endorsement has turned radioactive. More and more Repub legislators are taking note and are at least questioning Trump's omnipotence as the Potentate of Primaries. If Trump endorses more losers there's going to be a desertion from his camp that's going to look like a trickle that's about ready to burst into a gusher.

Cause the 3.5% of Republicans who are sane and science believing, will vote in 2024 and would vote for him. That 3.5% in 2020 either did not vote, or voted for Biden. Didn't we see some Republicans voting for Biden in the exit polls?

Moscow Mitch is even less charismatic than Nixon.

Mitch isn't running for president and even if he did he wouldn't get the nomination. But zero chance he would run.

What is disturbing is that it is only 17. Are the other 33 so far up Trumps ass that there is no hope they will ever see what a fucking loser con man he is.

Then who is the Republican that is not Trump, does not support Trump, and has the highest chance of winning if they were to run against Joe Biden?

Look at the polling on the GQP side. You can see who has the best chance of winning the nomination.

As far as winning against whomever the Dem nominee is in 2024, they GQP candidate will 100% support Trump. There is more of a chance that Trump himself becomes a humble and gracious person in the next 4 years than the next GQP candidate does not support Trumpism.

Progressive side of democrats may revolt over this. They are tired of not getting what they want and being told “next deal we’ll make it up”

Yeah there is a good chance something like this happened. Mitch McConnel has no soul and he will never have one, it has to purely be a political calculation because Mitch's goal is to prevent anything from making Biden look good, regardless of how good it would be for the country and for most people. There isn't much leverage over Mitch right now except Manchin stepping up and saying, well, I have been the true voice of reason, and the GQP has shown it is no longer a reasonable party on this issue, so time to change the rules. I can't think of any other leverage over Mitch.

Or Mitch maybe spotted a flaw that might couase a 2008 like recession, and wants the bill passed, so that he can blame the Democrats for it.

The fat lady hasn’t sang yet, so in no way would I consider this a done deal or close to. Republicans have a tendency of changing their mind after a nights sleep. That sleep, where they are visited by three ghost, the ghost of Trump past… the ghost of Trump present… and the most feared ghost of Trump future.

Probably not (at least in private) but I am certain there are 33 who can't brook a dem win at any price for their electorate. Those 33 are probably representing the reddest of the red. That's only 15.5 states, so slightly redder than Missouri or so.

Mitch had to provide a win for Manchin and Sinema to prevent them coming under sufficient pressure to trash the filibuster in the face of GOP intransigence. The simple calculation is that this was the lest expensive way to do that.

There is a lot of noise coming out of the House. The Ds in the Senate are going to move the budget resolution so the bipartisan deal isn't the only train in the station this time. Part of it is everybody posturing for what they want in reconciliation. Bernie was pretty crafty setting the $ bar so high for reconciliation so that if it's only like $3T in the end it's still gigantic.

"Trump threatened "lots of primaries" ahead for any Republican lawmakers who cooperated with Democrats to get the bipartisan deal passed".

Considering recent results in Texas, that really shouldn’t frighten them, but it probably will.

Eventually there are going to be enough such results that Mar-a-Lago is going to have to offer really spectacular coupons in order to get anyone to visit. Trump’s “power” will wane quickly as the perception about his influence on elections becomes, inexorably, ‘he’s Just a toxic loser’.
