19 inch
-same resoultion as 17 inch
-but bigger screen, so good if you are experiencing eye strain?
-more expensive - waste of money?

Does anyone find looking at a 17 inch LCD strains their eyes, by the way? Has anyone felt their eyes were under less strain after they shifted to a 19 inch LCD (from a 17 inch)?

I used a 17 in. LCD for years, and it was fine at 1280x1024. I used ClearType, and didn't suffer any type of eye strain. However, when I got my new computer desk (with digital dock), my 17 in got moved back much farther from where I was sitting, and it did get harder to read everything. Now, I have a 20.1 in LCD (Dell UltraSharp 2001FP), so that problem is solved. If you're going to be sitting within about 2 feet of your LCD or less, then 17 in is fine, I think.

Yea I sit about 2 feet away from my 17 inch lcd and i have no eye strain. So much better than 15 inch...but that's a different story.

I've used my 19" L90D+ and the 17" Dells in the computer labs here, and for me neither seems to cause less eye strain than the other.

However I enjoy gaming quite a bit, and the bigger screen does make games more enjoyable for me. So I decided to pay the extra for the larger screen.

What I'd really like is if I could get a 17" or 18" LCD that would do 1600x1200. If you get a really good 17, I would say go with that. A 19 will still do the same resolution, just bigger and potentially more pixelated. If I can get a 15" laptop screen that does 1600x1200, why not a desktop LCD???

Do they make 18" LCDs? Also where the heck can you find a 1600x1200 15 incher???

I had an 18" Planar for 2 years. And I was talking about a laptop screen, Dell has a bunch of higher end laptops that have 15" screens that can do those types of resolution or higher. The 15.4" screen on my XPS does 1920x1200.

Dunno why heaps of ppl seem to prefer LCDs... A 19" CRT with 1600x1200 is far cheaper, better brightness and contrast, a great viewing angle, no dead pixels and you dont have to worry about refresh rates and native resolutions.

LCD's...too much work.

Same res on a bigger screen just means a crappier image. I dont think it's worth the money to do what you are talkin about. However, if you can afford a 19 that does a higher res then go with that. Bigger is always better w/ monitors (except for CRTs when moving in and outta dorm rooms).

Besides preferring a bigger monitor (who doesn't?), I would prefer a 19" because the text will be larger. Also, I think 19" is the sweet spot for gaming because you have the same resolution of a 17" so games run well and your screen is bigger.

The 17" & 19" both use 1280x1024 as the native resolution. Since the clearest picture is attained at the native resolution, I would go for the 19" so the print would be larger. Along with clear type, text should look good and cause little eye strain.
