And that is why I tell my computer illiterate friends not to trust newegg reviews.

Why would he buy 13 of one type, and then 4 of another, apparently at the same time? Surely nobody is that inept at making GPUs. He's either lying, or there's something else wrong with his system that he's neglecting.

Or else he's really, really unlucky. I mean, all companies have a failure rate. Sure, it's tiny, but it's there. And given the number of people buying these, there statistically has to be someone that gets repeated DOAs.

Assuming he isn't being truthful, why lie about something like that? I mean, if he is lying, that was a pretty creative lie. He bought 2 different products, 13 of 1 & 4 of the other, why not just lie & say he bought 17 of one or the other or whatever.

Just seems very strange to lie about this.

OTOH, who the hell gets 17 defective products in a row? So that story isn't very believable either, but is possible. I'm with many of you, something else in his system is causing those cards to be unstable.

Crazy story either way.

He should take the whole system back to the shop where he bought it and tell them he's too stupid to own one.^_^

i know i know!!! he lives above a strong electro-magnetic field generated in a pocket beneath his house! he must enter a series of numbers every 108 minutes into his computer or something very bad happens.

Since he went that far out to lie, he could have at least added 20 more for a Clerk's reference

Hmn so we may just be dealing with a pathological liar. Its like...

They work great I love these cards. Except they are all DOA. OMG complain!! complain!!!

Definitely someone just looking for attention, look at the dates. His review on testseek was dated 5-13-2010 and said:

I originally started with one and loved it so much eventually purchased 3 more and LOVE them in Quad-CrossfireX! Even just one is VERY fast! I couldn't be happier with the speed and is about 50% as loud as my reference 5870 was! It actually runs cooler, faster and quieter! I say 5 stars and DEFINITELY go for this card! It is well worth the money and you WILL be satisfied!

Seproth959 would recommend Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 Super OC 1GB GDDR5 GV-R587SO-1GD this to a friend

DO NOT BUY 5/21/2010 1:02:51 AM

Pros: NONE! Would be great card if it worked!

Cons: Everything! Had 13, yes 13 of these 5870's andalso the gigabyte 5870's i went through 4 of and ALL were DOA's! I don't know if AMD is releasing bad chips or what but stay away! I love AMD to death but I went and bought 4 GTX 470s and all worked!
Even if he was somehow telling the truth, he managed to kill those four Gigabyte 5870's in under EIGHT days? I certainly wouldn't let him touch any computer I owned, that's for sure.

Anybody wanna bet on the life expectancy of his 470's? I give those poor things five days, tops.

Well, I suppose he needed to upgrade. I mean, his system running three XFX 5850's last month was just SO obsolete...
