If you can stomach the station wagon, you can get a Saab 9-2x for just a little more than 17k. They have amazing rebates that will last until the end of may.

Thx everyone for thier suggestions. I'll probably just go for the TC or Mazda 3 hatch(I like the hatch). Hopefully those 06 models come out soon so the price lowers on the 05's.

Don't buy a new car, they're garbage.

$17k will get you a 2003 maxima with pretty low miles and better than any new crap you can get in the same price range.

Even if you don't buy the maxima, still buy used.

looks good
fun to drive
decent leg room in the backseats
reliable
low on insurance(im 23 soon to be 24 with perfect driving record)

None of those cars will do for that one requirement. I suggest down payment on a Chrysler 300c. Best back seat leg room by far, it's fast, it's cool looking...

The maxima's leg room is good. Better than any of the other cars on the list, though I'm not sure how big a CL is, but I think its legroom is probably a good bit worse.

Yeah I totally agree, Maxima is prolly the largest legroom (front and back) from the cars on the list. Its also pretty quick and powerful for its size.

nice man... i definately paid quite a bit.. just shy over invoice for the area (according to edmunds). dealers wouldn't budge on price, since they had to get the car from another dealer, i wouldn't budge for anything on the lot.. heh. I'm happy tho.

If you want a WRX you should seriously look at the Saab 9-2x Aero deal that's going on right now.

you could probably get a used RX-8 for that

Top Gear loved it. Drives great, a real sports car. Has a backseat with room for adults. Has a trunk.

I think you should at least look at one.

Nissan Maxima. You should be able to get atleast an '01 or '02 SE (or later...I haven't kept up with prices) with all the trimmings for that price.

The places it'll hurt ya is on insurance and premium gas.

I can honestly say that my '01 SE was the best car I've ever owned and driven. Handling, speed and comfort were unbeatable, and it has very good aesthetics. ...oh yeah, the backseat legroom is very nice as well.

I had to trade mine in for something a little more utilitarian.

:( *cries and reminisces about the days of driving his maxima to the beach in Florida with the windows down and sunroof open, at about 100mph*

You might be able to get a New Nissan Sentra SE around the 17k mark it would have decent rear and front leg room. Or used a Maxima would work well too. . .

Damn that RX-8 nice as hell but it's a little bit out of my price range(cheapest used one I saw was $21,000). I'll probably go with a Maxima. I just noticed some of the used 04 models are going for as little as $19k. Maybe I might wait it out a bit for those 06's to be released and wait for the price to drop a bit more.

My brother got a Cobalt. GM is dying to sell these things and theyre practically giving them away. He walked out 3K UNDER invoice. He says it rides great (better than my 96 integra) but Ive never driven it myself.

I just noticed I can get a used Mazda 6 series as well in this price range. What's the diff between the 3 and 6?

I love Maxima but the insurance on Maxima will eat you. The insurance on my Xterra already smoked me. :(

As you are speaking of searching for decent legs room in the backseats, go for Maxima. They are very roomy. Can't go wrong with Maxima. :)

6 is larger (has an optional V6)
3 is smaller (has gobs more options available, HID's, Nav, etc...)

I drove both and ended up with the Mazda3s.
