Well if you missed out on the CompUSA sale on 16x CDBurners you can still get a deal. The Cendyne 16x10x40 (which is a TEAC drive - burnproof etc) is $140 in store, with a $40 rebate. #3021099 If you have questons on the drive do a search for Compusa thread on them.

1GHz AMD Athlon and ABIT KT7A RAID board $269 #2941315

thats about all that caught my eye. Everydaytreats will hopefully start a thread with his scanned ad, and and you can see all the other junk.

edit: For whatever reason the Cendynes in CompUSA were TEAC drives, and the ones in Fry's are Lite-on.

Everydaytreats is hooking us all up again, in case he doesnt make his own thread:

Scanned Fry's Ad

BTW the burner comes with Nero 5.5 and is a great drive, I also got mine from the CompUsa deal (got a TEAC too and sold it on EGay for $160 ;) </brag and moan>

bump for a FLAMING DEAL!!!

I got this burner on the Compucrap sale two weekends ago, and due to pricing errors on their part, I got it for about $78 after MIR!

I'm in love w/this burner! I've ran thru about 30 CD-R's so far, and not a coaster among them!

Davemeister,

About a week ago someone asked the same question.

"how does that cendyne perform with clonecd?"

someone posted that they had made some modification (software patch or something) that they downloaded and it worked flawlessly.

Do a search on the drive and combine it with CDcloned or cloneCD and maybe that'll work.

Good luck.

Is there anyway to get the rebate form other than going to Fry's? I want to buy this drive, compUSA will pricematch it, but I have no way of getting the rebate form I need. Any idea of what to do? please e-mail me or post again in the forum, thanks!

The rebate form will be a Fry's only deal. $140 is a good deal for the drive though.

Just got one from CA Sunnyvale Fry's, the drive inside is a Liteon LTR-16101B with a burn-proof lable on it. Don't think it's the Teac drive but seems to be well built, is it a good drive?

<< thanks for the clonecd info. I think I'll avoid this cendyne. >>

How significant is this clonecd problem? It was really the *only* *glaring* apparent problem. Since I'm essentially totally ignorant in this burner area, what's the interpretation - waz dis mean?

CDR-Info review

As all our tests indicate, the Teac 516E is a bad performer in our CloneCD reading tests. The drive ability to skip error is very poor and that is visible from the time, which is needed for making an image of SD1 protected CD (22mins), when the competitors need only few minutes. The same thing happens with LaserLock protected CDs and the drive seem performing better in the SecuROM test.

Duz dis mean it is more or less unuseable? Occasionally unuseable? A problem every now and again? Just *really* slow on special occasions? Is SD1 popular? Increasingly popular?

Would a future firmware fix be likely to square it away?

Don't get it? Get it, but .... ?

TIA

Lite-On 16101B are great and it's work very good w/ cloneCD

I just tried to copy AOE2 and It's worked flawlessly, I noticed the drive copy AOE2 to make an imaged seem alot faster comepare to TEAC W516EB 16x10x40. I thinks Cendyne/Lite-On drive is a better deal than Compusa Cendyne/TEAC drive deal.

Just got the Cendyne/LiteOn burner from Fry's and sent in my rebate. Sweet deal, burned an 80 minute Soundgarden CD in 5 minutes. Software included isn't too bad, it decoded the mp3's i dropped into the window. I love it! This deal is good through 6/12, and there were only about 2 left when I was at the Fry's in Houston.

yes please note my original post is wrong, these are not TEAC drives, they are Lite-on, someone can explain why the ones CompUSA carry are TEAC and the same ones at Fry's are Lite-on. Both seem to be great drives, esp. for $100 !
