Sanyo WAI1610S
The site is Japanese but I think all you guys need to know are in English.

Its full time 16x, oppose to Yamaha's partial 16x(I cannot believe Im dissing my fav brand), and its got burnproof. The downside, only 2MB cache, and its a Sanyo, not a Plextor or TDK.

I thought Sanyo drives were made by someone else. The last I heard was that TDK was coming out with a 16x w/ burnproof and 2MB cache. If it has burnproof, it doesn't matter what the cache size is.

Sanyo makes their own drives. They also created Burn-Proof, which is why the drive has it so easily ;)

But I'd still prefer to see a drive with larger cache, that 2mb leaves no room for a stall, and each stall adds up on the time it takes to burn a cd :(

so what it's not a plextor? if it offers the features that a Plextor does..

personally, if I wanted to get the best optical drive right now, whether it be DVD or CDRW, you would HAVE to go Ricoh.. their last CDRW/DVD drive kicks some serious @ss.. it's access times are waaayy below any other drive out there. it does very well overall in transfer rate benchmarks.

screw brands, just get the best drive.

I've had way too much bad luck and failure rate with Ricoh, I will never buy one again until they can really prove themselves.

Well, TDK has announced their 16/10/40 CDRWnow, and I'll just wait for that..

If, TDK announced this drive, the plextor can't be too far behind...

we're gonna start hitting diminishing returns here. a 16X is probably only a minute or two faster than a 12X

That blue one sure looks nice :)
But come on, 2megs of cache? A 16x burner will go through 2megs of data in less than 1 second. 4megs of cache should be the minimum for a 16x burner, and 8megs should be icing on the cake :)

Linh: You have a point there. 16x is only one and a half minute faster than 12x.

I say ... wait for 74x, so you can have a CD burnt in a minute ;)

I'm looking foward to this a lot myself. Time to ditch the 6x4x24 Ricoh, which has admirably burned well over 1000 CDRs, but it's getting kinda slow.

I'll settle for a lowly 32x burner :) - i have the patience for 2 minutes of wait, with burnproof so I can do other stuff of course. :0

I have patients to wait 30 minutes for my CD burning, no joke, when I burn I dedicated my entire machine to burning, no programs, no MP3, no games, no internet, no nothing. Even though I have SCSI, Im very superstitious about things like this.
