BTW, what does "Dual Layer" mean...can it write both sides of a dvd (that is capable of it) or is it something else?

I agree not so great a post as I said above, the NEC is the way I would go, I stumbled upon this and posted it, it's actually quite a signifigant savings from anywhere else on the sony that I posted.

yes. all DVD burners that i've seen also are CD burners.

i've had the NEC for a couple of weeks and it works great
