Now I know BF2 doesnt support widescreen, but when I installed BF2 for the first time since getting my new LCD, I cant get BF2 to run.

I did a fresh install and updated to 1.3, but when I try and change the game resolution to 1680x1050 through the shortcut method or editing the video.con file, the game crashes either while starting or entering a server.

Ideas? Tips?

Put in this after the properties location for your BF2 shortcut:

.exe"(space)+szx(space)1680(space)+szy(space)1050

Note: the "()" stands for the space bar key.

That puts it at a supposed 1680x1050 resolution, but BF2 doesn't support a true widescreen resolution anyway, so its not really wider than 1024x1280 or something.

Single player works fine but multiplayer games crash when I double click the server. *sigh* My computer is never 100%

is this the only game your computer will crash on? if not try to lower the overclocks on both your CPU and VPU. Also the battlefield 1.3 which i'm using also has issues. If your gonna reinstall BF2. try with the 1.22 patch and see if its still crashing before going to 1.3

If you are getting into the game with that resolution in the target then it is not the resolution tweak causing the crash.
Reload BF2 and only do only a full patch don't do the little incremental patches.

Also, go into your my docs area, find your profiles you use to play, DLEETE THEM, then do the widescreen shortcut fix.

The game still crashes when I double click a server. Goes right back to the desktop.

Single player works fine. This only happens when trying to play a multiplayer game. Which sucks cause that's all I wanna play.

Tomorrow I'll try the 1.22 patch instead of the 1.3

I am pretty sure EA requires the newest patch to play multiplayer. It is reasons like this that I don't play it anymore. I have better things to do then wait 30min to play a mulitplayer game only to have it crash in 5min. :| Ok I am done with my rant. I hope a patch fixes it for you. A friend once had to install it and uninstall it a couple of times before it worked.
