I am building a computer for a friend of mine and I thought I should put the build to the anandtech forum junkies to see what you think and to tear it apart and make recomendations.

The processor will get a moderate overclock.

Centurian 5 $50
DFI Lanparty CFX3200-DR motherboard $199(Is it worthwhile, or get NF4-SLI)
Sapphire X1800XT 512 $299 (Or 7900GT EVGA?)
Antec Truepower 2.0 550 $90
Opty 165 $327
WD 320GB SATA $119
G.Skill 2x1GB DDR 500 $179
X-FI Creative Sound Blaster $121
Samsung 16x DVD burner wlightscribe $40
+Assorted Odds and Ends
Ending with a InFocus X2 800x600 DLP Projector for $694

Thoughts, comments, critiques?

If you're not going to do crossfire, I think a DFI Ultra-D is a better choice.
Get the new Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB instead.
I'd also get the Enermax Liberty 500w

I'd go with the x1800xt 512

The ultra-d is a nice OCer. The HDD has Seagate's new Perpendicular recording tech (faster) and the enermax liberty helps with cable management and has shown to provide solid clean power.

The x1800xt provides great performance/cost ratio and is slightly faster than a stock 7900GT

I second the Ultra-D. I've done a lot of research and the Ultra-D is an awesome board: $123

Also get a BenQ drive. I have one and really like it: $39

If you are going to be overclocking, I'd lean more towards the 7900gt. See this voltmod tutorial, it's pretty simple to do:

I'd recommend getting some Arctic Silver 5 and a Zalman VF900 GPU HSF to go along with it, and some OCZ copper ramsinks if you're really serious. That Antec power supply if pretty good, but I'd recommend the OCZ 520-watt PowerStream PSU if you're going to be using a DFI board: $110 AR

Also, if this is for gaming, get him a Raptor drive (unless he needs the space). The only downer is that it costs $275:

The ram is good stuff. If you plan on overclocking, get some good case fans (Panaflos are nice). A UPS like a Belkin 660w would also be a nice touch.

I own a big typhoon and it's great. However, the stock opteron cooler is good enough.
That PSU is a little pricey, kaido.

BTW, your BenQ link is no good :)

Updated the link, thanks. Yeah, the PSU is pretty pricey, but DFI boards are really picky when it comes to power supplies. Check out the list at DFI-Street:

From my research there and elsewhere, I concluded that the OCZ was pretty much the safest/best choice for the Ultra-D.

I can whole heartedly recommend the BenQ 1655 -- I own 2 of them!
