For the ranks, what you posted is what they're used for. Anything else is unbeknownst to me. As for awards, I believe those are just to distinguish yourself a little bit, and most likely EA hopes they'll keep a lot of people continually playing to unlock all the awards.

As for only being able to unlock one kit per account, I haven't heard otherwise, so you can believe it to be true until someone else speaks up on the subject.
 
Thanks for the input. I just heard from some people that the unlocked Medic gun sucks.. Guess I'll have to find that mod that unlocks them all on SP.

i got the unlocked medic gun and its pretty good. alot more accurate and better overall. but i dunno how it compares with other guns. so which one should i unlock next? i was thinking that sniper rifle, but i rarely snipe. although it would be fun to shoot down helos and stuff. most likely ill unlock the gun for the spec op guy cause i use him the most.
 
Unlocked medic kit is extreme accurate. Single shot at range is almost sniper quality, but with less damage. An excellent support weapon.

If you don't snipe a lot then you won't be good enough to hit heli pilots. It's a bitch even when you're good 😛.
