Check the ad at midnight 🙂

BTW, HAWT! price for a SATA. For IDE drives this is a decent price, for SATA its a killer. I'm trying to migrate all my drives over to SATA from IDE, and this will help. Thanks!

If these are the SATA II drives they are great, I got two of them about a month ago, fast and quiet.

hitachi t7k250 and t7k80 drives have 8mb. this is probably the 7k250 (i have one of thsoe still a good drive) because it is only marketed as sata150.

OTOH Cr@pUSA is near the dim sum place I like.

You can order online for only $5 delivery. With the cost of gas nowadays plus time and effort, I'll pay the $5 anyday.

Thanks OP. I went thru the ad online last night but didn't catch this drive.

Can you pick this up at the b&m for this price or just online ? Also how long is the warranty on these ?

Just got it a couple of hours ago at the B&M...they had lots of 'em. 3-year warranty.

I got one too -- 8 MB Data Buffer and 3 year warranty. My CompUSA still had plenty of them left. The model number for mine is 7K250. This is my first Sata drive. 🙂

Same here. Model number is HDS722516VLSA80 .

My compusa also had a boatload of these drives. Didn't seem like people were lining up to get them, but I went on sunday morning around an hour or two after they opened. It looked like I got the first one, the shelves looked like no one had bought one before I got there.

The model numbers people are posting is confirmed. You can see the models matched to the 7K250 line here:

Its nice to get a 3 year warranty drive from retail.

I think companies are moving back towards 3 year warranties because they've seen that when they all changed to 1 year during a single month a few years back, it didn't save them much money.

I'm gradually changing my IDE drives over to SATA drives. I love SATA drives.

What I find kinda funny is that hitachi cheaped out on the retail kit and gives you only TWO screws lol. I mean sure lots of people usually only use 2 screws, but I prefer 4 whenever possible (unless I'm using a nice screwless case). I mean how much are they saving by giving you 2 screws instead of 4? 2 cents? lol

I stopped after lunch at the Anaheim, Ca store and OOS, salesguy told me they lasted about 10 min after the doors opened.

Gotta say too, I felt really sad for a guy there who was buying a laptop, and believing what he was told.

i actually run a 7k250.

its a over 2 year old design, but amazingly is just about as fast as the fastest drives out there. the t7k250 and 7k250 basically have the same seek and transfer rates, just the t7k250 has ncq.

i dont think it would really be a noticeable difference. it is also a very quiet drive, even without the acoustic management on (i couldn't tell the difference personally)
