Generally people make separate partitions for OS and for files/games or alternatively, for OS/Apps/Games and files. The size of the partitions depends on what you want to do.

I usually give the os between 20 and 40 gb and the rest of the space for MP3/video/games. Have been working fine for me since 2000 :D

Yeah I agree with Yanagi, partition about 40 GB for the OS and for applications. Then Partition the rest for audio/video and games. Thats what I would do

Multiple partitions means you won't have to defrag as much/long than with a single partition and it's more organized.

Only thing I don't like about partitioning is that when you drag a file from one partition to another it's that it gets copied & not moved over, unless you use menus or something else more elaborate plus you have to change program install paths when you install something since most programs like to install into the "Program Files" directory on your main partition.

hi guys ! i am new to this forum.. so welcome me in open arms..
anyway i would suggest that you split you hard drive to a smaller partitions...
5 partitions equals 32gb per partition...
that way when you want to scan your harddrive for problems or defrag it wont take you very long time if it was a one 160gb partition...

I agree with 0roo0roo = Keeping the OS PARTITION SMALL

I partition my 160G into 2G OS / 26G APPS / 125G Video + Games....
This method is a little extreme, but a very small OS Partition allow me to have Multiple Image-Backup.

I recommended for other people a 10G OS would suffice.

Look into getting either GHOST or ACRONIS - TRUE IMAGE BACKUP.
You won't regret it! Microsoft Windows - XP or no XP - has a shelf-life about 6 months
before it start to deteriorate.

partitions:

OS = 5GB (Windows XP needs at least 2GB)
APPS = 70GB
FILES = 85GB (and put your pagefile.sys here away from OS and apps)
