These drives were hidden deep behind some 120 GBs. also picked up 50 pack tdk 8X dvd -R/+R for 19.99(slightly warm)

thanks OP! I didn't see the original post. My local compusa shows "in-store"...hopefully there will be one for me when I go over there tomorrow!

If you're going to rip on them, get it right - it's "CompScrewUSA." 😛 ...or you can change that S to an "F" and add a University of California @ Kompton 😀

repost. take the flier to staples for 110% price match.

That's what I did today, 62.99+tax out the door 🙂 My HTPC is going to be very happy.

Is this about the best deal on a HD currently? Specially considering the PM to staples & no rebates?

Yeah, thinking of picking this up today, but don't know what I need to use as proof for the PM over @ Staples.

It's on the front page of the compusa ad in the lower right corner. It clearly shows the brand, picture of the box, model, the "instant rebate", etc, no way could another place legitimately turn it down unless they check stock and your local compusa is out, and even then you just try again later or at another store.

For what its worth, the one I got yesterday was DOA (wouldn't boot on its own for anything), did a quick swap this morning for another one and got it installed just fine. These drives run a bit hot but aren't noisy at all, the seeking/reading is louder than my WD 120gb SE, but there is no "idle" noise that I can hear from the drive spinning - the major thing I hate about my WD.

Brand? It appears to be generic. http://www.compusa.com/product...=300018&pfp=BROWSE

It shows a picture of the maxtor box on the actual ad

Stay away from Maxtor. They shortened their warranty period from 5 years to 1 year for a reason!

Just pulled this deal at Staples. Sweetness. They thought about giving me a hard time because the box in the C-USA ad had a blue label, and the Staples box has a silver one. But I didn't even have to fuss; the manager just gave me the discount (and a dirty look) and bid me good day.

Thanks for the tip!

The ad doesn't say "instant rebate," it says "instant savings." So if CC gives you crap, point it out. I had zero problem at Staples, and they tend to be stingy on PM-ing.

thanks revolutionary I will do that today 🙂 but I just check circuit city and they dont carry maxtor drives only WD does bestbuy price match ?

Almost got them to give me the SATA one as the PM. Had an older lady behind the counter, she read the 160GB, 7200RPM, & 8MB Cache and said the SATA one was the same drive. Then a younger manager came in quickly to see what she was doing and quickly said it was the wrong drive. I didn't have any trouble PM'ng the PATA drive though. $68.47 out the door. (7% tax)

I don't believe BB does the 110% PM policy, just equal PM.

See, they just do the 10% of difference, not the 110%. (hehe)

Actually I used to work there like 8 years ago, and don't think they did back then, maybe they did (I got fired, so I guess I wasn't the kinda employee that knew much about nothin anyway). Nice to know though =)

WD is also one year

The only brand I use is Maxtor. I made the mistake of buying a 120GB WD about 6 months ago. Trouble free up until yesterday, when it just crapped the hell out. After 5 hours of troubleshooting, diagnosing, and using every frickin' utility I can find, I have an Advance RMA coming my way from WD. I'm going to buy that 160GB Maxtor at CUSA today and once that replacement 120GB gets here, I am selling off that useless fvcking gdamn WD hard drive and recouping (some) of my money.

My WD history:

Stock 2GB w/ Compaq - dead in under a year
Replacement 2GB under warranty - dead after 3 days.
Replacement 3GB for that 2GB drive - clicking noises after a year (stopped using that computer a few months later, don't know if it still works or not)
120GB - died/half dead after 6 months

To each their own I guess - everyone has bad experiences with particular brands. I'm still using a 13, 40, and 2 120GB Maxtors running 24/7 with no problems. (13GB made back in march 99)
