16 years ago... Yzerman shoves puck down Blues' throats

Fuck the Red Wings. That being said, Yzerman was one helluva hockey player.

Arguably the most underrated top shelf player in nhl history. I remember back in like 94 Sports Illustrated doing an issue on him and how he was (at least at the time) the 3rd best player in history behind Gretsky and Lemiuex.

man i miss the rivalry between the wings and avs. i still have my 'Wings suck" t-shirt that i wore with pride at the games.

chanting ozzzzzgooood, ozzzzzzgooooddd, ozzzzgoooodd made my night at avs games.

What made that shot incredible?

For the same reason you are on this planet. Sure, everyday there are millions of fornicating human beings getting their groove on, but on that one special day they created you champ. As your strong self swam up that canal, fighting in double overtime, to continue into the next round of playoffs, and ultimately give yourself an opportunity to one day ask the dumbest question I have ever seen on this forum.

Keep talking about yourself.

Keep talking about yourself.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH.

Really? You should be ashamed of yourself for that retort. What are you, 9?

As for the goal...I was still just a pre-teen back then...I still remember all the Red Wing t-shirts I had. What an era.

Okay I did see the other response but--blue line slapper in double-overtime of game 7--instant game over and pretty amazing. There is another angle from behind the net which shows the shot--he just winds up and fires a rocket, but it's a pretty low percentage shot as the goalie can see it from far away.

Also, the Red Wings won, and that is always good.

What was so memorable about that goal? Slapshot from blue line. Soft goal

High Pressure.. Double overtime. Neither team has scored a single goal. Goalies are at the top of their games. Sweeps puck up from a Gretsky flub, handles it perfectly, lines up for perfect slap shot even though two defensemen are right in front of him, blasts it right past them before they even realize he's going to take a shot, and it flies past the goalie faster than he can react.

It was a 'wise' play and only players like Yzerman can keep things together in a situation like that because of his experience. Who thinks to take a long distance slap shot like that at a time like that under that kind of pressure? and do it so quickly and accurately that the other team barely realized what happened before the goal buzzer is going off.

Most times in a situation like that, teams won't want to give up possession of the puck for a long distance shot that will most likely be blocked and given to the opposing team.

cliffs - Yzerman says "i got this"
