Will the families of the 4 victims be able to sue the parents for their kid causing the "accident"? :\

All filed and all settled already. Sadly most of the money comes from insurers, not the parents personal holdings.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/taxpayers-pick-bulk-rehab-bill-affluenza-texan-newspaper-001238197.html

FORT WORTH, Texas (Reuters) - Texas taxpayers picked up most of the $200,000 bill for the so-called affluenza teen's court-ordered rehabilitation in a probation deal that kept him out of prison for killing four while driving drunk, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Ethan Couch, who turned 19 this week and was 16 at the time of the incident, will be in a Tarrant County adult court on Wednesday for a likely determination of how much time behind bars he must spend for violating the probation deal.

Taxpayers paid more than $150,000 of the bill for his year-long rehabilitation because his parents were unable to pay for all of the treatment, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said, citing court documents.

Attorneys for Couch were not immediately available for comment.

At Couch's trial in juvenile court in 2013, a psychologist testified for the defense that Couch was so spoiled by his wealthy parents he could not tell right from wrong. The psychologist described the affliction as "affluenza," a term that quickly became a media buzzword.

Couch was sentenced to 10 years' probation, during which he was to remain alcohol- and drug-free. The sentence sparked outrage from critics who ridiculed the affluenza defense and said his family's wealth helped the teen stay out of jail.

Couch and his mother, Tonya Couch, fled Texas in December, apparently to avoid arrest for violating the drink- and drug-free probation deal after video on social media appeared to show him at a party where alcohol was being consumed.

Ethan Couch has been in custody since he was brought back from Mexico in January.

Couch will appear before Judge Wayne Salvant, the same judge presiding over Tonya Couch’s case.

She is charged with helping her son flee to Mexico. She was released on bail but is under home confinement awaiting trial.

Tonya Couch faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of helping her son flee.

Someone should just kill this worthless stain on humanity...what a waste of breathing air.

WTF? Parents can't afford to pay the rehab bill? Couldn't the court recoup the money by garnering from their income? Surely, they are paying taxes right?

The Texas teenager who used an "affluenza" defense for a fatal drunken-driving wreck has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison, though it remains unclear how long he will actually spend behind bars.

Ethan Couch, who turned 19 on Monday, appeared in adult court for the first time Wednesday before state District Judge Wayne Salvant.

Salvant initially said he would not immediately rule on how much longer Couch would spend in Tarrant County jail, but said he reconsidered his ruling after hearing an argument from prosecutors that Couch should be sentenced not to a maximum of 120 days in jail, but for 180 days for each of four counts of intoxication manslaughter under a separate part of Texas code.

The terms will be served consecutively. It was not clear whether that would include the time Couch has already spent in jail.

A kid in my area got nailed with a DUI accident over the weekend, fortunately nobody was hurt. It probably cost him a lot of money though as he was likely to be drafted very high in an upcoming draft.

I heard somewhere that he's in solitary confinement at a supermax prison, if that's true, that is going to suck hardcore for him, even if it's 2 years.

Keeping someone in solitary for extended period of time is cruel and unusual punishment.

It's sickening how just because someone is rich they can pretty much buy justice. If it had been an average joe he'd be in jail a long time ago. Maybe even executed depending on that state's laws.

Or be politically connected, like this guy who stabbed a guy to death:

The California politician’s son who knifed a college student to death then had his 16-year sentence dramatically cut by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is out of prison after less than six years.

Esteban Nunez, the 27-year-old son of former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, was released Sunday morning, prison officials said.

The victim’s mother said she felt “emotionally drained” thinking about her son’s killer waking up in his own bed Monday.

“They treated my son like dirt, yet the dirtbag walks,” grieving mom Kathy Santos told the Daily News.

“I don’t feel anger so much as disgust and helplessness,” she added. “We have no voice.”

The mom lost her 22-year-old son Luis Santos in 2008.

Prosecutors said Nunez and a friend were both armed with knives when they killed the unarmed man near San Diego State University’s Fraternity Row.

^ Wow, never even heard of that case. This is why we have a lot to learn from the Chinese justice system.

It's funny; there's some user on Wikipedia right now keeping mention of the son out of the father's page, and I happened upon that same user removing scandals regarding Leland Yee (IPs would later reveal that people from a Californian state office were editing things to make Yee look better). Between this and the new Feinstein encryption thing, Cali politicians and their henchmen really need to brush up on their propaganda and censorship skills, you'd think they would have a better understanding considering how tech-oriented their state is.

Snoop knew about this case and here is what he had to say about it:

http://www.aol.com/article/2016/04/...nge-aol&cps=gravity_7544_-2542020314945134320

"Arnold Schwarzenegger is a straight bitch, punk motherfucker," the rapper said in a video obtained by TMZ.

"I can't stand you. You one motherfucking racist piece of shit. Fuck you, Arnold Schwarzenegger," he added.

I don't know how he's racist though, since both the killer and victim were Hispanic.

According to the article he's in county jail.

Also, it said the judge gave both sides 2 weeks to respond to his sentence so this all might change yet again.

lol yeah, extremely hard to believe he was in a supermax...

either way, 2 years should have been too little for the original charge. what a joke

They are still pretty heavy handed. Yesterday they ended a Pro-2A campaign, well, just because they could.

http://dailycaller.com/2016/04/13/twitter-ends-pro-second-amendment-ad-campaign/

Twitter has put an end to a pro-Second Amendment ad campaign aimed at gathering signatures for a petition against an initiative to have background checks on ammo sales in California.

The Coalition for Civil Liberties ran an ad that said, “Sign our petition: tell @gavinnewsom you value your Second Amendment rights. #2A” for two weeks before Twitter ended the campaign Tuesday, according to a member of Capitol Media Partners, who were responsible for the ad campaign.

Dave McCulloch, Digital Strategy Director at CMP, told The Daily Caller that when they asked what happened and why the ad ended, the social media giant said it was because of “bad business practices” without further explanation.

Speculation within Capitol Media Partners is swirling around the idea that California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom has exerted influence over Twitter to put an end to the ad campaign, according to the group.

Lt. Governor Newsom’s office and Twitter have both not replied to requests for comment. Two Twitter executives gave almost $100,000 to Newsom’s campaign to be the governor of California.

The ad campaign, which is still very much active on Facebook, reached over 118,000 people before Twitter shut it down without thorough explanation.
