If you're poor, you go to jail and help that industry remain profitable.“The real truth is that our criminal justice system is suffering from ‘affluenza’ because affluent people can afford better attorneys and get better outcomes,” said Drexel University Law Professor Daniel Filler, who told USA Today that any savvy attorney could use this argument after the media attention of Couch’s case. He notes that the parents’ attorney was “doing what a well-paid lawyer can do.”
Weird.Couch’s parents previously had volunteered to pay $450,000 a year for their son’s rehabilitation at a posh Newport Beach, Calif., facility. Instead, he was directed to the state facility costing $260,000 a year, of which they will contribute $14,040, officials said.

He was born into a wealthy family.

If I was related to the deceased, Ethan would have a 30 caliber hole in his head already.
This is a travesty.

Just like we have the best democracy money can buy, we have the best "justice" system money can buySeems like the judge missed an opportunity to cure this "affluenza" by throwing him in the slammer, and instead just proved that money does solve everything.
New news and it appears the Ass Clownery runs strong in this family:

Welcome to the forums! BTW I'd recommend not putting your address in your profile (I'm assuming that's your address?)
F*ckin nuts! How can anyone argue that the rich don't have special privileges compared to the poor/middle class when they find themselves in trouble. If this were to happen to anyone of us, we would be looking at 20+ years in jail.
I hope they sue the sh*t out of this guy and his family.

If you're rich, you get "treatment" at someone else's expense.

Two wrongs do not make a right.
In this case, yeah, they just might. That gets him out of the gene pool and off the streets before he kills anyone else. It's win-win.
This kid needs to be executed, seriously. Cops execute innocent people all the time, yet murderers get away just because they are rich and have some made up disease? Complete bull crap.
