16 X DVD Rom 49.99

Anybody know if this is a rebadge or how it compares to a Lite-on drive? I'm trying to decide which one to get.

I just ordered the one from outpost. ground shipping was cheaper at outpost than newegg
plus I picked up the APC UPS Backup deal from a little bit ago ($45-$15MIR=$30)
ground shipping for the both was under $7, 😎

I've stumbled across a few negatives comments about BDV DVD-ROMs, and the best comment was that it is "decent." For a few more bucks, you might as well go with a Lite-On (my current fave) or Pioneer (reputedly one of the best at error-correction). I'll have to pass.

If you are in the market for a DVD Rom, buy the Toshiba. It is one of the best drives out there. You may pay a little more for the shipping on it, but trust me, the drive is superior. My $.02.

I'm in the market for a DVD for my PC

Which of the 4 players mentioned (creative, pioneer, toshiba, Lite-On) is the best if I want to hack it to be region free????

See the below link for reviews, generally for the money the lite-on is the best:

be sure and check out all three comparison roundups

I had one of these BDV junkers...an 8x model that was a rebadged IOMagic. Would read DVD's and factory CD's fine, but had all kinds of problems reading burned CD's...apparently this was a pretty common issue with the 8x and 12x drives after reading through IOMagic's forums...wouldn't trust'em...got a 16x Lite-On from NewEgg over Xmas...works like a Champ!

Dell sells the LiteOn LT163 for $50.95. Got mine during one of their 20% off peripheral sales 🙂 Even without the sale, I'd get the LiteOn again over a lesser brand.

I have this drive and had bought it from FRY's B&M for the same price several months ago when it was on sale. This is not the same drive that has negative comments and in fact on one site it was praised as the fasted DVD drive they had tested. It comes with great software and works awesome. I agree that BTC is usually a stay away company but they got it right on this drive. I think that it is a Sony drive but can not remember the drive model it matches. I know this post is somewhat vague but I am very hardware aware and this is a proven drive for me. I would buy another one if I ever needed it. I also have an NEC DVD drive in my other system and it is great as well.

For $7 more before shipping from newegg, you can get a pioneer 16x slot load dvd rom drive. I've found the Pioneer so far to be a pretty good drive. Probably should see how it handles my slightly scratched Gone in 60 seconds dvd.

Run away from btc, seriously. I've never had anything but bad experiences with their products. Indeed, when you go to fry's, the amount of returned btc product is staggering.
