I didn't think I would like any Slipknot album more than the first, but this one so far is winning.

I'm going to be in line for this the second it's out.

The two songs i've heard are not that great. It's like they've gone from their heavier stuff to more radio friendly produced crap. Then again, it's all about selling albums.

To each his own

And those saying they're selling out - you clearly know nothing about the band or the music they make.

I used to see bands as "sellouts" <cough>Metallica Black Album<cough> until someone pointed out one important truth:

This is how the bands make their living.

When you go to work, and you do what your boss says, is it selling out? Well, the CD buying public (through the record label) is the band's boss. If they need to "soften" the music to be able to reach more listeners, most bands will do that. At least for a little while....

I loved their selftitled cd, but never heard anything other than that. I probably wouldnt goto their concert :) I'd be owned hardcore by the hardcore kiddies!

For starters - the music is not softer.

listen to Welcome and even Pulse of the Maggots. Neither of those songs are any softer than their older music. It sounds different, better, but it is not softer, especially Welcome.

Duality itself is the same as Left Behind and Wait and Bleed from the older albums, where each single was the kick off to the respective CDs.

To say that they are 'selling out' because of these songs is far from the truth. The music is different, but the message not changed.

Exactly, if you were given a promotion to a management level would you deny it for fear of selling out "to the man"? I doubt it, you'd be rejoicing.

No, you don't give a rat's ass about that heartless corporation. You do it for the money. A musician is supposed to love what they do.
If you kiss your boss' ass, you are a sell out.

If they played well, instead of popularly, what would they have to lose? Another sellout movie soundtrack? Another million a year? Nothing to lose. They're sellouts.

And so is every other band that ever made any real money.

So is any athlete who has left his team for the PAYCHECK.

Nah, I used to think like you do. But now I understand exactly why they did what they did and I still respect them. It's not like the black album diminished the greatness of Kill --> ...And Justice or anything like that.

A lot of people just get jealous because now others are enjoying the band that they used to enjoy when the band was a lot more obscure. Why it bothers people when a band goes mainstream and gains millions of additional fans really makes no sense to me anymore, although I did used to bitch about it when I was in college.

2 acoustic songs on a slipknot album...who woulda thunk it...

I used to see bands as "sellouts" <cough>Metallica Black Album<cough>

didn't you know? all *real* metallica fans claim they sold out shortly after the release of AJFA because they made a music video for One. funny, no one can give a real consensus as to when metallica sold out yet people claim it all the time.

All I have to say is thank god I heard it before it came out, because I almost wasted $10 on a coaster. And this is coming from someone who's bought both versions of the first cd, bought iowa, bought disasterpiece, and seen them 4 times in concert. I can't believe how the best band in metal pulled a 'Pantera' and decided to magically suck.

My question is who will take the metal throne? At least there's still a few bands that havent entirely screwed up yet... I bet Ross Robinson is laughing his ass off at how bad the new album sounds and is entirely glad he jumped ship.
