My fiance and I are closing on our first house this week and we want to put a 22" HDTV in the bedroom mounted on the wall. A number of the models I have seen have been 16:10 aspect ratio rather than the 16:9 that I'm used to with 32" and larger televisions.

Now I know that 16:10 doesn't really matter all that much if you're using a monitor for regular desktop stuff in Windows, but since this would be used 100% as a TV, is 16:10 a bad way to go? I assume the picture would be stretched out vertically?

The particular model I've been looking at is the LG 22LG30 which is at Circuit City. The price has been hovering around $330 with the current liquidation pricing. I'm expecting it to drop below $300 tomorrow with the next round of percentage off increased.

My other option that I've been looking at is the 23" 16:9 (1080p) Samsung 2333HD which is currently $349 at Office Depot (it was $299 last week but I was too chicken to purchase it).

Absolute image quality isn't exactly a priority for me as I'd rather have a lower upfront price -- the TV will just be a convenience item, we'll have a 42" 1080p TV downstairs for movies/gaming/TV/etc.

The 16:10 TVs are TN anyway (that Samsung too), so why not get this instead? Bigger and cheaper, and you'll need a cable box anyway.

But on a bedroom wall, unless you have a tilt mount the TN view angle issues are going to be a pain. If you can drop $350 you can probably find a 26"-32" 720p regular LCD TV.

I just don't want a huge TV hanging up on the wall, that's why I want something smaller. I just don't want the room to be dominated by a TV that will be used sparingly anyway.

And I don't need a box, we get HD channels over the cable line.

I'm not sure a stretch to 16:10 would be particularly noticeable for casual viewing.

16:10 will slightly letterbox 16:9 content. You'll have about half an inch of black border on the top and bottom of the picture in 16:9 shot content.

This is assuming it doesn't just stretch it, which is unfortunately the case with some cheaper 16:10 monitors.
