15GB Dell DJ mp3 player for $179.10 shipped!!

I guess so. I've only heard good things about the 20gb refurb. $179 is an excellent price for a new 15gb. I have the 20 and it is a wonderful device.

EDIT: Heh, the refurb 15gb is actually $0.90 more! Oops on Dell's part.

iamme, fyi, your linky sends to the dell outlet and the disclaimer on the bottom states "All systems refurbished". the price is still pretty attractive, though.

AND, if you check on the available units in stock and select one from that list, the cost of the dj-15 is 172.00 + free 3-5 day shipping. (plus applicable st tx)

You have to go to the Dell Outlet page, then click on "NEW software & peripherals" -> "Digital Jukeboxes" -> "Dell DJ" and then it shows up for $179.10.

i'm confused about this as well. i got off the phone with a CSR and was assured i ordered a new item.

the 15% off coupon only applies to "New software and peripherals" and it won't take a discount off when you go through the refurb inventory. they have two distinct categories: "New software and peripherals" and "Dell Outlet peripherals".

if it comes to me as a refurb, it's going right back to Dell.

Does this come with the USB cable? I see they sell it as an extra but I can not find what the package includes.

The 15gb should come with the USB Cable. Refurb users report that most everything comes originally packaged and looks almost new.

How are the bookmark capabilities on this thing? I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and it seems like a lot of the players have poor bookmarking capabilities.

I played with one at one of the Dell Kiosks (sp?) and it did not appear to have ANY bookmarking capability.

If you are looking for Bookmarks (for Audio Books) try the Rio Karma or one of the Archos Jukeboxes and flash with http://rockbox.haxx.se/

Fixed rechargeable battery

Ewww, no thanks.

Anyone know if this thing takes a battery pack of some sort? What kind of lifespan dose the battery will limit the player to??

probably same lifespan as every other HD-based mp3 player......or Li-ion battery.

keep in mind the battery won't just die after a year. it may just lose an hour off it's time and slowly degrade over time.

also, i came across this: battery for Dell DJ. perhaps users can replace the battery themselves, like iPods.

Nice deal OP. I have been wanting an MP3 player for a while but the prices for anything larger than 10GB were out of my price range, but this one fits the bill.

This is not a portable drive. It would require drivers and software on both PCs. So "Kinda"

Fixed rechargeable battery

It is replaceable and the link to the replacement battery can be found at the Dell Community Forums.

None, so I remember.

Overall, I have had mine about a month now. It works great! The new firmware is definately a positive. I don't have anything negative to say about it, though I havn't really used any other MP3 player, and all I use it for is music.

ooo that's nice. I want to try it first to make sure the UI is the way I like it. Does anybody know if compusa has it on display?

also, is there any sort of hack out there to get it working as a usb mass storage device? (without extra drivers)
