Is the motherboard properly mounted on standoffs? If that isn't the issue, could you please post some detailed spec info.

What is the point of trying to power up a bare motherboard here? If I may ask.

I have tried to install it in my rig 2 times and it did not power up. So I am trying to troubleshoot,..... It must be plugged in to work right??

What should work is this:

  1. lay the bare motherboard on cardboard
  2. ensure that the motherboard's Clear CMOS jumper is in the "normal" position and not the "Clear" position
  3. flip the power switch on your power supply to the Off position
  4. plug in the ATX 20-pin cable and the ATX12V 4-pin cable
  5. flip the power switch on your power supply to the On position
  6. tickle the motherboard's ATX Power Button pins with something metal as shown here, to make momentary electrical contact between them. This should cause the power supply to begin spinning its fan(s).
Caveats:

1) some motherboards will not power up if they don't see an RPM signal on the CPU_FAN header, as a safety measure. Soyo's known for this in particular.

2) some motherboards default to auto-powerup after a power failure, and will power themselves up as soon as the PSU itself is switched on.

I've just finished downloading the AOpen manual (whee, dialup Internet is SO fast :p) and will put up a picture showing you which pins are the ATX Power Button pins if you need one.

Ok tried tickling the two pins and nothing:(
Hooked fan up to cpu fan1, and still only powers w/out the 12v plug

Plug an RPM-signalling fan into the CPU_FAN header to eliminate the possibility that it's designed not to start without an RPM signal on that header.

If that isn't helping, then

1) try a different power supply if you have one

2) try it with your CPU, heatsink, video card and one memory module installed. Knowing what hardware you have would still help with the insights here, I think.
