Thanks KLin, we're thrilled because at our old place, we were paying $1375/month (about $1450/month with utilities). There are some pictures of the old apartment in disarray, with boxes everywhere. The new apartment is only $825/month ($875/month witih utilities), and is much bigger and nicer.

Pictures on the walls, got it... I actually have some nice wood frames and will try to put some up this week. 🙂

Paint works wonders! I prefer earth tones 🙂 Cover the walls in fabric since that isn't an option - do something to break up the vast sea of white.
 
Some people may disagree with me but I'd just go to IKEA and bring home some ideas... seriously, everytime I go to that place, I buy a bunch of small, relatively cheap decorating items... lots of ideas there as they display furniture in openroom style.

We didn't know that either! The apartment is in West LA, and we really got lucky with this one. All the other places we looked at in Santa Monica, Culver City, West LA, etc. cost $1,000/month and up, and some of them were pretty scary (stained carpet, bugs crawling around, strange odors, etc.). We stumbled across this one via craigslist by chance, there's a private owner/manager so we don't have to deal with horrible management companies. Our old apartment was in a complex of over 800 units, and this one only has about 9 units. I think we'll probably stay in this apartment until we either leave California or can afford a house here.

The only bad thing is, after we signed the 1-year lease for this place, the owner told us they would be re-doing the piping of the entire complex sometime in April or May. Which means broken walls, replacing pipes, etc. I'm a little worried about how that's going to work, but I suppose we'll get to it when the time comes.

LOL 😀 I make a lot of ground turkey tacos, plus we use salsa on our sandwiches (with lunchmeat, instead of mayo or mustard... it's pretty good!).

With large walls that are empty...
what i like to do is get three LARGE blank canvas'. take your ffavorite colors and make three abstract art works that all kind of blend in togetehr. its really easy to do and will look great when you line them up together on the wall...

Also, if you can, paint the walls. We go to Home Depot, etc and go to the paint section.

The have an "oops" rack with all discounted paint that people returned because it was not the "right" color. We found great deals (5bucks a can) and some cool colors as well.

Vintage Pciture frames are also good to hang. You dont need anything in them, just go to a thrift store and find tons of different kinds and hang them in a group together on one wall.

Find things that normally wouldnt go IN a house/apt and put them there.

One of my favorite ideas is to take an old bird bath and clean it really well. if its deep enough, you could put a little gold fish in it. Or, you could make it a table. get a glass top and there you go!
 
oh and you definitely need a bigger tv, but you dont have that much space

a 42 inch plasma will do the trick
