Hi,

Got a mate that's building a mining rig - 6x 2060's. He's looking at a 1500 watt PSU.
I'm not too familiar what kind of specs are suitable for such a high load running 24/7.

These are two I've found:
Silverstone ST1500
Corsair AX1500 V2

He prefers the Silverstone due to cost, but as I said I'm not sure if an expensive one is more required in this scenario with 24/7 load at 1300+ watts.

Appreciate any input.

i would honestly split the PSU's and use a dual PSU adapter instead of running a single 1500W.

Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Upgr...l+PSU+adapter&qid=1567119244&s=gateway&sr=8-7

or this:
https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-...=B00O0M6Q0C&psc=1&refRID=Z2B07MB8QB2NNH5FRNQH

and run 2 x 1000W or split them as needed like 1x800W for cpu + 2 x GPU, then 1000W for 4x gpu.
As it would probably be a cheaper, and also more reliable on your PSU's not being at near full load all the time.

Interesting, thanks for the input. Do you think running a PSU 24/7 at that sort of load is likely to cause it to fail?

It will definitely cause the hardware to go through faster wear.
Typically PSU's are the most efficient at around 80-85%, however it does not mean they are the most reliable.

Running the PSU's less tax'd will allow them to run cooler, and hence, extend the life of the system by a noticeable amount.

Although, Super Flower makes a massive 1600w built as you would expect a Super Flower to be; 90% efficiency at 100% load, 94% max efficiency at 85% load.

Thanks guys. Holy moly that's a beast of a PSU... I don't think I wanna know how much that's going to cost.

I have a Rosewill Hercules 1600W Gold PSU that I'm looking to sell... let me know if you're interested!

When I did mining, I ran 6 1080 Tis per machine on 2 1000w supplies. Each supply was on a dedicated 20A circuit. The breaker box was close to the mining setup so it was easy to do it. Just be careful in that respect as you don’t really want to push a circuit over 80%, meaning 1200w on a 15A. Not sure where you are located as that may not be an issue.
