$1500 Build Help/Suggestions

1. I will be using it for some gaming, COD4, L4D, TF2 etc. Also playing movies, music, heavy web browsing and occasional photoshoping. I tend to multi task so being able to have 6 different programs open at once without the computer getting bogged down is important. Also having something small enough to fit in my dorm room is important.

2. $1500, but the cheaper the better

3. Buying from the US

4. No brand preference

5. I do have an OS, but I have no current parts. I will need to buy a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

6. I have searched and read previous threads.

7. Honestly I'm not very familiar with overclocking, any input would be great.

8. I plan to build it in the next week or so.

Oh forgot to include this, what are the virtues of a 32 vs. 64 bit OS?

64bit > 32bit. If your key is for a 32 bit OEM license, you should be able to install the 64 bit version of your OS

Looks good. I'd go for the antec tri-cools for the 120mm fans though. Depending on your ears 1500rpm fans may be loud to you (I have 3 and they're a tad loud) but tri-cools on the low setting are very quiet, and you can kick them up to med or high when you need a bit more cooling

I should add that an accelero with fans on it will be too thick for future xfire if you think you might do that, so a scythe musashi would be an alternative thats thin enough. I own both coolers and they both perform quite well and are near silent

Thanks again for the reply, I don't think I would use a blu ray drive, but I will go with a samsung/lg.

In terms of a mouse does anyone know of a mouse with a scroll wheel like the Logitech VX Nano http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16826104080? I absolutely love the frictionless scroll wheel, but not being able to middle click without changing the scroll mode bothers me. Any keyboard suggestions as well?

Sorry to bump this again, but is overclocking this worth the trouble? If so, do I need any additional hardware?

yes and yes, in that order. your should be fine overclocking on your x58, but i'd buy an aftermarket heatsink for your processor. i'd look to spend maybe 40-50 bucks on a nice heatpipe cooler. xigmatek dark knight is a popular one that's available on newegg. thermalright true can be obtained from other sites. lots of others, of course, and i think there are some decent roundups that i'm too lazy to google. 3.3-3.5ghz should be very doable on air.

NOT overclocking the 920 should be illegal, you can do 3.2ghz on your stock cooler for sure.

There are no taxes in the state I live in. I have already accounted for shipping costs. I already have cables and thermal paste.

Still trying to determine whether or not buying an after market heatsink is worth it though.

Damn man, just about every company charges tax for us californian's - You're lucky. If you want the system to last, then keeping temps down and dust out is a good idea.

Yeah internet taxes suck. I am lucky enough to live a state without any type of sales tax.
