Anyone have one yet? What do you think? Any reviews out there? A lot more reasonable price for me to pick one up for my old rig.

I don't think noise is an issue for the VRs at all from what i've gathered, likely largely due to their 2.5" design.
 
I have the 300 gig. It is very quiet, not silent mind you but it definately is very quiet. Only time i really notice the noise it makes is when I power down. Then I can hear a faint whine as the discs spin down. Probably wouldn't hear that if my fans were still spinning. Oh and it is very fast. Did I mention it is extremely fast? In HDtach ir averages 107.2 MB/s for me in the quick read test. Starts out at about 137 MB/s at the beginning of the test and finishes at about 80 MB/s at the end. Random access is 7.4 ms and Burst rates come in at 250 MB/s.

Just seems like a bad idea with SSDs coming down in price, though i realize write speeds on the cheaper ones are still crap (so more waiting).
 
Meh, the GB/$ isn't as good as the 300GB unit.

I still want one of the 300GB units. Or several. Tough to justify the cost though.
 
It was released about a week ago and it's got the SATA connectors in the regular placement spots.

The drive actually sits inside the "Icepack" cooling carriage and is connected to the SATA ports on the outside of the Icepack.

On my "regular" VR 300 GB unit, the SATA connections are on the drive itself and not placed in the normal spots.

The only difference is, mine can't be used with a backplane and HLFS versions can.
 
I've used it and was not particularly impressed. Of course I was comparing it to the fasted 15K SAS drives so that comparison is a little biased.

HOWEVER I installed it in a bottom feeder Vostro 200, restored the image to it and booted and the system was definitely snappier - most UNDELL-like! :laugh: So if your desktop needs some zip this may be what you want. The noise is very tolerable as if a raptor sounded like BB's getting shaken in a can this guy sounds more like sand. The ticks are very subtle and only get noticeable when the pedal is to the metal. Even then it's quite gentle.
