$150 bluray player

Good deal for a BD player. According to Amazon and a few other wbsites, this player has mixed results. It apparently boots slowly and doesn't play normal DVD's with great qualiy...otherwise, it's a solid, decently-equipped BD player.
 
Given the fact the bluray format is still evolving, this is one instance where I would be hesitant to go with a cheaper player. You might need firmware updates in the future, which will be harder to get for an off-brand. Also, being a good upconvert player is critical to how much you will like your bluray player. I'm still waiting for a solid name brand in this price range.

Was just going to post that the extra $50 was worth it for my Panny 35, but saw the price actualy is around $45-50 more than when I bought in DEC, and my Pioneer 1018 bought in DEc for $430 is now $550 at the egg.
 
If you're looking for a cheap BD transport, keep an eye out for the upcoming Vizio VBR100. MSRP of $199 so street price will likely be a bit less. BD Live capable. I haven't seen any news since a bunch of CES news releases. It's supposed to street in April (I hope they make this date given the total lack of recent information).

It looks like the BD player market is going to quickly drop down to the regular upscaling DVD market prices. I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of players selling for under $100 by this holiday season.

Until then, I will make do with my blu-ray ROM drive in my computer.

Agreed. I think the only question is whether we'll see profile 2.0 players at that price.

I wouldn't be surprised. Memorex is coming out with a BD Live enabled player in this same price range (but without the ability to internally decode the lossless HD audio) and there is this Vizio player (from what I can tell BD Live = Video Profile 2.0). Unless the economy picks up, I suspect it will be a race for the bottom as far as prices are concerned. I would love to be proven wrong (i.e. have the economy pick up but suffer higher BD prices).
