(9.9.99) ahh man I miss the DC. Next to the SNES, the Dreamcast was my favourite console system. I still have it but it's fried. Too many Fantasy Star R.O.D's (resets of death) i think finally did it in. Such a great system at the time. SEGA rocked and still does.

As much as I have my issues with Sega, that was probably the most underrated console ever. It was literally the Naomi arcade hardware in a box.

The system is good but its lack fo dvd drive and inferior power to ps2 sealed its fate.

I'll also add in lack of advertising in typical Sega fashion. Sega had Visual Concepts (now 2K sports) putting out kickass sports games and didn't even have a clue.

Upon release it had a huuuuge marketing campaign, it set records on release. It just couldn't keep that momentum going with the PS2 looming over its head.

Wow, yeah you're right. Completely forgot they put $100 million into it. I can't even remember a commercial on it though like the Saturn and Genesis commercials. Just marketing through gaming rags? Oh well, not like it matters now. It did better than Saturn initially at least. The Japanese side never listened to Kalinske anyway.

Thread title is misleading. 15 years ago today, it wasn't 9/9/99. And, regardless of that, the DC released in Nov. 1998. >_>

yeah, I actually imported one with lunch money I saved up for $300. I think the problem with Saturn was SOA. Sega of Japan rocked the Saturn, but SOA sucked. The PS2 was the first of it's kind to push muti-featured consoles... All-in-one box..

Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Space Channel 5, Code Veronica, HOTD2, Powerstone, Street Fighter 3 third strike, The typing of the Dead, and of course, all the 2k games... Marvel VS. Capcom...

I imported my DC. I had a Saturn and like it. Plus, it was a NAOMI board with less memory, so you knew all the great arcade ports were coming and they were going to be as close to arcade perfect as you could get at home.

I still have a Dreamcast with two controllers and VMUs. I still like to play Sonic Adventure from time to time. It really is a great little console.

Ah yes, the Dreamcast. The console that brought us Skies of Arcadia and many other awesome original games.
