What was that other dreamcast brawler game with the jewels? Power Stone? I remember playing House of the Dead as well... super fun.

It's too bad Sega squandered all their money and bungled the Saturn so badly. The Dreamcast was a great console that had its life cut short too early.

My group of friends growing were big Sega Genesis fanboys. None of us moved on to the Saturn though. In fact, I didn't know a single person who actually bought one. I do remember seeing it's weird long jewel cases in the video store, but that's about it. I bought an N64 late in that generation after falling in love with Goldeneye and OoT.

I kinda skipped out the sixth generation because I was big into PC gaming by then. Even still, nobody I knew had a Dreamcast. I don't even remember hearing that much about it when it was still on sale. That was probably a big part of the problem too.

bought a dreamcast on launch. loved it. spent so much time playing soul caliber (kilik!) and shenmue on the dc.

Actually when it was released it was huge. Dreamcast set records for console sales upon release and there was a huuuuuuge marketing campaign.

I knew one guy that had a Saturn and we played it once that I can recall.

Awww, that means you missed the best 32 bit game!

I just don't seem to remember it at all other than a few articles in the magazines. By that point though I was almost entirely focused on the PC.

A lot of people I knew did run out and buy the PS2.

I can't help but wonder what Sega would be like today if they were still making hardware. There have been rumours kicking around over the years, but so far nothing. I think they've just forgotten how to make good console games. If it wasn't for the Total War series, I would have lost all faith in them years ago.

ah the easiest console to pirate for. i remember going through headaches to get discjuggler to work on my pc. i'm pretty sure i actually had to buy a new cd burner because the one i had simply couldn't work with it.

there were some really good games on dc. i remember the first times i played powerstone. that game was so awesome.

Love the Dreamcast. Even at a 2 year life span it's library made it my 2nd favorite console, only behind SNES. No doubt had it lived as long as PS2 it would have been numero Uno. I got mine in early 2000 when a Sams club was selling a Dreamcast, Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, a VMU and extra controller for $250. I thought it was the bargain of the century.

Seriously, it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy to pirate games. Plus I remember being able to load up emulators off a disk and playing it on Dreamcast. Played a ton of old games on it. Most of the games I played on Dreamcast were pirated.

I have 3 dream cast. Just in case one breaks. So far still on number 1. It's been played at least 4-6 hours a month. Speaks to the quality. Shenmue, crazy taxi, sonic adventure, a great Street fighter game, soul caliber, ikaruga, I could go on and on.

Loved the Dreamcast.

My collection of DC games included: Shenmue, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Powerstone, Grandia II, Skies of Arcadia, Soul Reaver, and Phantasy Star Online.

I remember my friends and I basically playing Soul Calibur for Dreamcast, an unhealthy amount. Its one of my top 2 favorite fighting games of all time.

As much as I don't like to admit it, i was the same way.

I just picked up a dreamcast today for $45. Acquired a copy of Sonic 2 and threw it in. Instant nostalgia. Building my game collection for it now. Going to try all the games I wanted to be couldn't afford when I was 10...

It is a cool little system (it really is small) I'm very excited for my games to be ready tomorrow 🙂

Got it for Christmas '99.

Still have all of my games (21 or so) and the system in the box in the closet.

Some truly classic, all-time great games in a remarkably short life span. Definitely one of the best.

Oh god, i remember spending hours with 3 other friends on DOA2. That game almost got us into fist fights. I still have my DC connected to the original tube TV I used back in the late 90s early 00s in my living room.

Only really play it when my brother comes over to get shit faced. Usually end up playing Mars Matrix.

Good times.

I remember a co-worker went and bought one at lunch and we played in the conference room for a few hours. The first time I saw Soul Calibur I was sold.
