Heres the story
LMA -- A 15-year-old boy arrested Wednesday after leading deputies on a chase that reached speeds up to 125 mph was charged Friday in Wabaunsee County with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and felony obstruction of duty.
Albert Ciesla also was charged with reckless driving, evading and eluding, speeding 125 mph in a 70 mph zone, illegal lane change, failure to stop and illegal U-turn, said Wabaunsee County Attorney Craig Spomer.
The pursuit started on Interstate 70 in the downtown Topeka area when a Shawnee County deputy tried to stop a black BMW for a traffic violation about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The driver went west on I-70, and the deputy was joined by officers from the Kansas Highway Patrol and Wabaunsee County sheriff's department.
At times, the driver made a U-turn in the highway median, left I-70 and returned to it, and once went east on I-70 in the westbound lanes. Sheriff Dave Meneley said the motorist swerved toward the Shawnee County deputy, causing him to swerve into the median. Ciesla was apprehended after leaving the car.
Shawnee County deputies, who crossed the Wabaunsee County line while driving in hot pursuit, brought Ciesla to Topeka, where he was placed in the Shawnee County Youth Center.
During a detention hearing Friday to determine whether to continue holding Ciesla or release him, Shawnee County District Judge Charles Andrews gave Wabaunsee County authorities until 5 p.m. Friday to pick up Ciesla before Shawnee County authorities would release him
