In the new issue, the 15-year-old singer/actress is shown partially nude, only wearing a dark sheet.

<The ?Hanna Montana? star says the photo shoot was supposed to be artistic.:laugh:

?I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ?artistic? and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed,? Cyrus said in a statement released today. ?I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.?

This latest incident comes just one week after racy photos of Cyrus hit the net. The images, which were allegedly hacked from herMySpace page, show Cyrus pulling down her shirt to reveal a green bra.

Cyrus says the leaked photos were ?silly? and ?inappropriate.?

?The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone.

?Most of all,? she says, ?I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life?s journey.?

The photos of Cyrus for Vanity Fair were shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, who has also shot covers of many famous celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Cameron Diaz

I don't know where to start with this but here goes, it seems this country can never figure out why one foot in the church house and the other in the whorehouse doesn't work.

Corporate responsibility to stockholders first by increasing sales using pictures that come close to child pornography or personal responsibilty and saying no.

Like it or not this is the top role model in America and for these Vanity Fair pictures to be released at a time when almost everyone wants to hang the FLDS members for their abuse of children seems like playing both sides of the road, but no matter how clever you think you are Miley eventually you will slip and get run over while jumping from one side to the other and just saying sorry while taking the big payola won't cut it.

When I was an up-and-coming newspaper writer, I was assigned to work with a high school intern who talked a lot about how she didn?t want to have premarital sex. Listening to her go on about why she was avoiding ?the act? seemed harmless enough. So why did I get uncomfortable whenever she brought up the topic? Because, I later realized, that by talking about not having sex, she was really talking about sex ? albeit in a backhanded way.

I get the same uneasy feeling when I hear performers these days alert the media to how they plan on remaining ?pure? until marriage. Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson started this trend nearly a decade ago (next time someone says they?re not pioneers, note that they helped invent chastity as a career move). But now their crusade has been taken up by Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks and, most notably, the Jonas Brothers.

On the surface, the reason why these performers are taking virginity pledges has to do with religion. But why advertise this particular aspect of religion? Because by talking about how they?re not having sex, they?ve discovered a sly way to market their sexuality. There?s an unsettling exhibitionism in all of this. Since these artists are putting issues about their sexuality front-and-center, it?s hard to see them and not immediately think about their sex lives. Do we really need to know Joe Jonas isn?t getting any?

Then there?s the issue of hypocrisy. There?s a disconnect happening somewhere when performers slink around in schoolgirl outfits or whip their female fans into a frenzy, then make like they?re innocent babes off stage. Yup, nothing to see here folks ? just half naked virgins writhing on stage! Move along! Two-faced presentations have always been the norm in American popular music, with performers like Prince and Madonna sexing it up on the one hand and then thanking God on the other. Now that?s being taken to a greater extreme.

I have no problems at all with her showing her body, but lets call a spade a spade and move on with it. This whole duality of pretending to be "pure" while being a skank is getting ridiculous.

I think you're missing the point. It's the "puritan" parents who are spending millions and millions on her and other Disney marketed stars.

I don't care when a 15 year old shows a naked back...unless that 15 year old happens to be the idol of our 5 year old little girls. If you want to make millions as a star and role model on Disney, then please don't pull stuff like this and make us try to explain to our little girls why Hannah Montana is going around without clothes on.

I agree about the nudity thing... but she is 15. Too much fuel for all the perverts running around out in the world.

Parents and pragmatists both could agree that this isn't appropriate for a 15 year old.

I have to wonder why parents even encourage "success" from their children. How many become successful and summarily run their future off a plank? Maybe I'm making a stretch, or maybe not, will she be knocked up by 20 and married multiple times or a drunk? Who knows, but the percentage of child stars who end up a mess is higher, I'm sure, than the percentage of non-star children who end up a mess. I wouldn't want it for my kids. It is an unnatural force on their lives.
