First of all, thank you very much NEO for personally emailing me with stores tht had them available.

I mentioned this above. I was ranting about the people at the stores thinking I was a DumbfK. I knew they were either hiding the FLAT SCREEN or already bought it themselves.

I called ahead and checked the SKU and told that the 15 inch THIN TRANSISTOR FILM SCREEN was in stock. Then after driving I was shown a 15 inch CATHODE RAY TUBE.

(I don't come to this forum to buy a 15 incher for $299).....This comment was intended as an inside joke for us Hot Deal Monkey's----> (see parentheses) WOW. Do these fool's think that I would buy a 15 inch CRT for 300 bucks. HAHAHAHAHAH

To those who misunderstood, blow me. And blowing is half the battle. JK:) No, really.

Wonderwall: Had this problem too. You have to make sure that under the display settings for your video card, you have to have it set up that windows determines the display timing. I am at work on an NT machine right now so I can't give the exact steps. I am sure someone else here can look that up. Anyways, the exact location of this settings is variable dependent on the video card you are running.

Wonderwall,
I think it's your video card. One of my users at work had the same problem with a flatscreen she bought. REsolution would not go above 640x480. But 1024x768 worked on her 17" (cathoder rat tube) no prob. I suggested that she go buy a better video card and it worked. I hope it's that easy for you. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the great tips! I really appreciate the responses...

Currently I have the monitor drivers set up correctly (spent an hour with a Proview technician verifying this) and also made sure that the correct items were displayed under "display adapter" and "monitor" in "device manager."

I went ahead and reinstalled the display drivers for my card. This and a restart then caused my monitor to now display 800x600! So I can now SUCCESSFULLY switch between 800 and 640, but 1024 is still a no-go ! :(

Any ideas (or do I need to plonk down for a good video card)? The problem is that my current card is an "MPACT2 3D Media Accelerator w/ 8MB RDRAM" and I believe, decodes for my DVD-ROM drive. So I can I replace the bloody thing anyway?

Sorry about these rants. I know this is pretty OT, but I really p*ssed after snagging one of these beauties, and then having this problem.

Wonderwall: Don't go buying a new video card just yet. Once I get home, I'll check my system and see what that setting was that I mentioned earlier. I had the exact same problem as you, and it was a very simple fix.

For those who might have some problems with their PT-500 and video resolution:

This monitor is VESA DDC 1 & 2B compliant which gives it true Plug and Play capability. Therefore it "communicates" with the video card in such parameters as refresh rate, resolution, etc.

If the video card is old, it may not be VESA DDC compliant and may have problems working with this LCD panel or my default to a certain lower resolution. A newer video driver may help, but the best bet is a newer video card.

My Matrox G400 drives this panel very well.

Hey guys,

I happen to have been lucky enough to find one of these at my local OM, and I really thought I would use it, but, it doesn't seem like I am going to. The one I bought was a display model and it included everything but the power supply. It's not in perfect condition (since it was a display). Visually it looks fine, but the screen is loose on the base - it's not going to fall off or anything, it's loose considering it's been moved alot (from display). It has the FULL warranty and all the registration cards you might need. I want to sell mine. I know this isn't the FOR SALE forum, but I wanted to offer it to you guys first. Anyone interested please drop me an email. Sorry to tie the bandwidth up here, I just love this forum! I got my free TiVo yesterday and I love it!!! (Again thanks to this forum)

Wow, I kinda figured I would be overrun with responses. Everyone says they want one, but then I offer it and no one replies. Must be the thrill of the chase!

Hey guys

I picked one up just this Saturday!

Brand new in box from a store that listed 1 in stock. Apparently, they didn't know it was marked down from $799 and it was sitting there collecting dust. The manager said, "the one that's $799?," and I say "I think it's $299," and he says "No, I don't think it is," and I say "I think it is, it's pretty much all over the internet" and he scans it and says "OH! It is $299"- Heheheh

Call the store even if it has one left... I called a store that showed to have 3 in stock, but it turned out to be an inventory error. The guy checked his system and told me to call this other store that showed 1 in stock, and warned me that it was probably defective or a display model, and it turned out to be brand new.

Thanks for the deal!

The other thread is in the 1st msg of *this* thread.

How funny that this came up tho bc the manager of the Office Max who was trying to get me one called me today out of the blue and told me that the one he tried for days to get over here for me went back as defective (that store is about 2 hours away, and in another state!)!

I have to say, some of those OM folks are pretty cool. :)

I've got one too that I'm looking to sell. It was a floor model but is in perfect condition. It comes w/speakers, and all the applicable cables and such...(including power supply).
I used it for a few days then got a 19" Trinitron cause I needed something bigger.

Anybody interested can email me...
