15 inch LCD depth?

First off sorry if this has already been asked.

I want to know about how deep LCD monitors are (15"). They look like theyre about 1 inch deep from pictures. Unfortunately, all dimensions I find show depth as including the base stand. How deep is just the monitor part on average? Is the base needed for it to operate? I want to mount an LCD inside a briefcase so depth is an issue. Thanks.

I have a Viewsonic VG150. From its "thickest" point where it mounts to the base, it is about 2.3" This particular model can be taken off the stand and has a standard VESA mounting bracket. I would geuss that any LCD that uses an external "power-brick" instead of built in PS has wall mounting bracket.

It depends on what company makes the LCD screen. I have seen some that are very thin and some that are thicker. Sony has some LCD monitors that are very thin, but very expensive.
