Unlike the jingoist crowd . . . I would let everybody stay. Crossing friggin' shark-invested water in a homemade boat should get you merit points.

?Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!?

Uh, not so fast Cubans. We found a technicality to keep you out.

Yeah it's called illegal immigration.

But if we rip them out of closets at gun point and send them back it's ok right?

It is because of that action to return Elian Gonzalez to his father that the U.S. can demand and get reciprocity when the shoe's on the other foot:

Brazilian judge orders boy returned to US father

I remember the episode well and the hysteria generated by the boy's relatives in Miami and feeling distaste over the whole affair.

wet foot/dry foot is a joke and should be revoked along with a host of other anti-Castro BS.

When he finally eats it I'm hoping we can return to some common sense with regards to Cuba.

I think it's absolutely criminal that we send Cubans back to imprisonment when other nationalities get released with court dates. On the ladder for asylum I put fleeing Communism way above fleeing poverty. Of course, Cuba offers both . . .

Yeah it's called illegal immigration.

For Cubans it is called freedom, something they have no chance at in Castro's little prison island paradise. Prior to the Clinton administration all they had to do was get anywhere close to the Keys and we would grant them asylum.

I can't believe multiple posters in this thread are so ignorant that they think the USA doesn't deport illegal Mexican immigrants. Hint-unless you know real facts and deal with them, any solution you propose is fantasy at best.

I somewhat ask, where is the Cuban American community in Florida that should be turning out in total outrage?

Or is that now a spent force, because they have not been drinking enough Geritol to notice.

But in MHO, that whole "wet-foot, dry-foot" crapola, was always deeply flawed nonsense based only on political pandering.

Arizona’s law, effect and cause

the new “gestapo” law in arizona is so bigot and bias that it brings out the worst in multigenerational u.s. Citizens, around the nation; by the illegal alien population flouting their illegality, and demanding to be kept here on their own terms. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail in washington, and just, new immigration laws will be enforced to put and end to; machinegun carrying ice police; and mass deportations, while new 21 century “goths” march through all u.s. Borders

most aliens are absorbed by the american’s land of opportunities, opportunities; and their children into the mainstream. But it is not fair for those who wait for legal entrance. If i were a multigenerational american citizen, would be upset to see hundred of thousands of cubans receive privilege immigration treatment claiming to have come here temporarily to overthrow the cuban dictators, only to quit trying when the empire’s government quit meddling in the 70’s, but kept asking and receiving the privilege of the ones who sacrificed for them. And hundreds of thousands others, from south and central america, using the same lie to gain preferential treatment, while saying that everytyhing in their countries is better than here, and satisfied with living in the fringes of society rather than immerse in the american mainstream, because “they are going home with the dollars”.

Fortunately, juanes broke the humanistic ice towards cuba, orlando zapata tamayo, showed the way of selflessness, the new government of the empire want to use empathy, and cubans in exile are rediscovering humanism. Hurry up time!

please, pray a few seconds to your god, for eduardo arocena family; arocena is a cuban warrior prisoner in united states.

Thank you

These people risk their life for the love of what America used to stand for.

They aren't going to become keyboard generals like half the miscreants in this forum who were born here and STILL ALLOW THE TRADE EMBARGO

If you want these people to quit coming here.. quit fucking with their countries

We don't return the Cubans because they are at risk of going to prison when they return to Cuba.

The Haitians don't have that risk.

Let's take a time warp back to 2006 and rally some support.
