So there is going to be a super complete edition released next year that includes all of the previous games/expansions? Is that correct? If so i think i'll just wait for that.

My brother played this game when it first came out and said the computer cheats by creating huge armies to destroy you etc. Have they patched this out? I'm talking single player here but if you have anything good to say about multi player great.

Well, there are 6 AI difficulty levels. Easy (bad strategy). Normal (the AI's best strategy). Hard (1.5x economy buff). Unfair (2x economy buff). Cruel (4x economy buff). Vicious (6x economy buff).

Now, if he started out by playing the original Diplomacy, he may have been referring to the Pirates which were very overpowered and extremely difficult for new players. They have since been nerfed.

The online multiplayer PvP game is great fun, but this game has a learning curve and many if not most of the people who play PvP on the Diplomacy expansion are very experienced grizzled pros. The way to get into it would be to play it in single player for about 2 months and master that aspect of the game (learning all the ships, tech trees, game mechanics, etc.). Then accept that you'll need to get thumped for about 50-100 games while you learn how to play it against human players before you can really hold your own. However, it's so worth it once you get up to speed. The 5v5's are a lot of fun and can become intense.

The Trinity pack contains all of the current content. Stardock and Ironclad are working on a new expansion (or maybe it's more like a Sins-2) that will be a stand-alone product called Rebellion which will include all of the previous content. It will sell for $40 upon release and probably won't be available until April 2012. Some people have pre-ordered it so that they can play in the Beta which isn't out yet.

I thought Sins was fun for a few days, but I couldn't get over the different factions being virtually the same except for capital ships. I've been spoiled by entirely unique factions/races.

It's a hard road to hoe--trying to balance a game and to make it playable. I think they've actually done a great job. The ships are very different in many ways. One race's Class A ship might be better or worse in various way's than that of the other races, and it really does affect the strategy, at least in online multiplayer PvP games where the strategy and tactics are more sophisticated and nuanced. The support class ships have larger differences.

The factions are actually very different and play pretty differently. There are in a sense 9 different type of strategy you have to consider--3 for each race (against each race individually). The way you play the game as Vasari against an Advent opponent is going to differ compared to how you'd play it against a TEC or Vasari opponent, at least at the online multiplayer PvP level.
