Better job and higher salary rarely go hand in hand with one another. Trust me on that.

What the hell can you do with an MA in psychology?

Become a clinical psychologist (not psychiatrist, psychologist).

Don't you need a PhD for that?

might want to edit your poll to make it say MA rather than BA.

but i think an MBA will give you better skills to be a successful businessperson. psychology is an interesting field, but i feel that it will get you a job with a smaller salary unless you are extremely successful and are constantly booked with clients.

(i've sort of put thought into this as well.)

Aren't starting salaries for people with grad degrees higher? My friend is working on his PhD in CS right now (AI), and when he finishes it his company will bump him up the pay scale to 6 figures.

You need a Ph.D. to be a psychiatrist, but you can be a psychologist/therapist/etc. with an Masters.

Fixed, thanks tami. I wonder how hard it is to build up a solid client base.

No you need an MD or a DO to be a Psychiatrist.

I think he means "better" in the normative, rather than the positive sense

A Psychiatrist is an MD (or DO) who uses a medical approach to treat mental disorders.

A Psychologist is a PhD headshrinker who talks about how you were weaned too soon and had issues with your toilet training.

A Therapist is someone with some sort of training or credential who validates your private thoughts whatever they may be and tells you it is okay to be a big fat loser if that is who you really are on the inside.

Bottom line: The answer to your question is: whoever works the hardest...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

It's funny because it's true.

As you advance, you just go further up the ladder into leadership roles. The further up you go, the less important your education is and more important is your experience and knowledge of company policies and procedures.

Work at a senior center for $7 an hour?

*shrugs* A family friend works as a private psychologist and bills $150/hour with an MA in psych.

Better job? That's just a bit subjective. Also, isn't the MBA the degree de jour? What would you use it for or how would you be any different with an MBA than somebody else with an MBA?
