Several years ago I picked up a $40 toolset for $20 at CompUSA. I left it to my brother when I moved out. I still regret not getting two at the same time. In the 5+ years that passed since I bought it, I have not seen another such good deal.

Until today. I am in on the deal. I would have gotten one this morning, but I was at a car race. I hope there are some left at my local B&M tomorrow.
 
I do believe that they call them star bits because Torx is a brand name.

As for the smaller T-6/ T-7 , etc, check your local sears again. I got a T-6 for my nokia 8260 at sears for 2.99, look near the single screwdrivers for a rack of precision, jeweler-style screwdrivers, with a rotating top so you can hold it down with your index finger and twirl it with the rest. They were not too well marked, and most likely all disorganized, but I found mine in about 2 minutes. 🙂

BTW, it is a metallic shaft, black handle, and red pivot top if you need some help looking. 🙂

I got my Craftsman Torx screwdrivers in a set with philips and flathead. Mine have a green top though. I just wish they made a T5. The only one I managed to find was a cheap Chinese one that doesn't seem like it will last much longer as it's already starting to leave metal filings every time I use it.

Talk about fillings. I feel like my torx screws are all striping. Excessive force by my part. I might get cross screws for all my laptops. Easier servicing.

Anyway this deal is very good. Considering that I pay 9.99 for a set of torx 10,15,25 and one other size.

Just remember that its 29.99+tax out the door. NO CRAPPY COMPUSA REBATE> YOU gotta agree with me. (btw I always get compusa rebate🙂)

After I read your post again, I realise that the screw bit I need might not be the regular torx. Anyway, it looks different from the regular torx screw as it is more pointed 6 point star. I wonder whether there is such screw?

Yeh, I think I'm going to go back and pick up another one to use as a gift.
 
I hate COMPUSA for doing that larger image thing. It's only larger by .001" then the image they have there. I want to see what is inside this tool kit.

EDIT: The image is large as to be easy to read. Don't let your Internet Explorer fit it to the screen as it will shrink significantly.

I went to Comp, had this puppy in my hands and thought to myself... "This looks generic". 🙂 I dunno, I've had a pos set like this and just feel that for once, I need to spend a little money, since I work alot on pc's and get a real nice set that costs a little bit more with a quality case. I've always wanted to spoil myself that way.
 
its generic but ok for general use. my tools are mostly german and sears craftsman so darn costly. but with my type of work it has to be...
 
I have been doing house calls for pc repairs and upgrades for 10 years.

My toolkit contains:

1 Large flathead screwdriver (2.99)
1 Small flathead screwdriver (2.99)
1 Large Phillips head (2.00)
1 Small Phillips head (2.00)
1 Torex tool with bits in the handle-size 6-11 (12.99)
1 Chip puller (1.99)
1 Small pair needlenose/wire cutter combo pliers (3.99)
1 Roll electrical tape (.99)
1 Maglite (7.99)
1 Socket wrench (3.99)
1 Small box of screws (?)
1 Can of Air

Plus, I carry a cd wallet with about a dozen cd's (including one for cleaning optical drives) that I use when I am on location.

And that is about it. I have them all in a little professional looking briefcase type tool box that I think cost 15 bucks from Big Lots...but I buy a new tool box every couple of years.

When you have fewer tools it is a lot easier to keep track of them all; I can tell at a glance if I left anything in the machine or on the floor.
You should just buy the tools you need and leave the rest of the crap alone.

Where can you buy most of this stuff? Like the Torex tool, chip puller, wire cutter? Is there one place I can buy all of this online?
 
It seems to be that the kit is missing the #1 tool that any good computer tool kit should have. It is always right on top in mine.

It should have a wrist grounding strap. Maybe it is not considered a tool, but I sure do.

YES it has your torque bits. NO a torque is not a star bit. Also, in my 5 or 6 years working on computers daily, I have never shocked anything due to static, let alone fried it, so the wrist strap is out. Just touch some metal and ground yourself first.
