1440x900 or 1280x800 on a 14" screen?

Is it worth the extra money to go from 1280x800 to 1440x900 on a 14" screen? Would 1440x900 be too small on a 14" screen?

seriously....why the hell couldnt you have asked everything in ONE thread, and why cant you google around to find answers to such simple questions?

/mostly its just annoying that you have three threads.

Because I wouldn't be able to fit all the questions in one header, so people with the answers I want might skip the thread if they don't think I am asking about something.

Secondly, you just posted something that gave me ZERO info on my question, so who is wasting space here?

Third, I am searching Google, but the more info I get, the better informed I am, so not limiting myself to just one spot.

Then make a general laptop questions thread. You don't have to put your whole message in the header.

Having a 14" wide screen laptop with the WXGA screen, I'd go WXGA+.

i agree. its much easier to just make a generalized, single topic and list several questions in that single thread..

...and risk people skipping it because it has a very generalized title rather than a specific one which might catch their eye?

Plus on those generalized topic where multiple questions are asked, the discussion usually turns to just one of the questions, which means the other ones will usually be ignored. Thus I posted 3 different ones. Why does this bug people so much? If you don't know or want to answer my question, just skip the post.

This question is really very subjective. My 14 inch T60 uses 1400x1250, but I have to zoom the text to LARGE in order to read it.

A lot of the answer really depends on your eyesight as well as usage.

well sure looks like you OTHER two topics are getting a lot of attention.. oh.. wait...

maybe you should flood the forum with one question per topic. i could make one about ram, cpu, gpu, screen size, hard drive, what brand is better.. list goes on and on. is it really necessary? hmmm lets take a look at your other two topics you posted with zero replies so far.

oh btw your question here is based on opinion. some might say yes, its too small, some may say no. the best thing you should do is go to a store and look at the differences yourself and make a decision based on what ~you~ think is best for you, not someone else's opinion on something so subjective.

1280x800 looks ok on a 14", but 1440x900 is just so much better on 14" or anything bigger!

Well, after seeing my buddy's new Thinkpad with a 14.1" screen at 1440*900, and comparing it to my MacBook with a 13.3" at 1280*800, I can safely say that I prefer the pixel density on my MacBook. I don't have old eyes or anything, but I personally prefer my MacBook's screen. Or a 15.4" laptop at 1440*900, the 14.1" screens are a little too big for 1280*800, and a little too small for 1440*900 in my opinion. So, do you prefer things smaller or larger?

To clarify my reasoning for wishing for WXGA+ on my 14", I do photo work sometimes, and the extra screen real estate would be nice. Text size is good though.

It seriously depends on personal preference. You need to actually try out the screen in person before you can make any decision. I once used a Dell with a 1920x1200 17" screen and it was fine. My friend's Macbook Pro with a 1680x1050 17" screen is also perfectly OK for everyday use to me. I find that higher pixel densities are better than lower ones because there is less scrolling needed. Depending on how goo your eyes are, you may or may not share that opinion.

I have 1280x800 on my 14" too. Works fine for the most part, but I do miss the bigger resolution that my desktop monitor offers. :p
