Your school has her come in every other day for maternal leave? That is extremely stupid. The substitute and her must get things crossed all the time, must be a pain in the ass.

Edit: Oh, wait, it's a foreign language class... guess that is kinda difficult.

So does the subsitute just babysit you pretty much?
 
i'm pretty sure the grades are more important than the hike-- heck, wouldn't it suck if you decided to go hiking and it ended up either raining or being really hot that day?

On the other hand in ten years he won't remember the test at all, but the hike could be a great memory.

Wait till you get into the business world, deadlines are much more serious than a paper and most of the time you won't even get two days.

Man you sound like your average token super-anal-retentive HS student. How about you STFU and just deal with it/stop worrying about it. These types of people really need to start realizing that much of what you are doing now in HS doesn't matter at all, and you're just creating more work for yourself worrying about it.
