I had the EXACT same situation a month or so ago. I had two lcd's that would fit my laptop, a 15 inch @ 1400x1050 and a 15 @ 1600x1200.

1600x1200 was TOO SMALL. I tried to deal with it for about 4 days. I messed with dpi settings, changing browser font sizes; etc etc etc and it was absolutely horrible. Pictures on webpages were screwed up due to large dpi, but if dpi was left alone then things were simply too small (and my vision is fine. I'm 19 and wear corrective lenses (contacts) and it was still just too small)

Go with the 14 at 1400x1050. Trust me.

your opinion sucks. sorry. i have good eyesight naturally, so maybe that is a difference, but 16x12 is freakin incredible. it looks 100x better 14x10.

I don't think it's an eyesight issue. Maybe, if anything, it's that I sit about two feet away from my lcd.

T42s are out already?? Mmm, Dothan! $1499 for entry level with 1.7GHz isn't too bad.

as always, 16x12 if you don't mind having a heavy notebook. I have the 600m w/ SXGA+ (1400x1050) and it's been perfect thus far.

i love my 15" 1600x1200 laptop screen. it's the best monitor i've ever seen, and i don't have trouble reading on it even with cleartype off (and i wear glasses). the only thing is if you want to game, you need a graphics chipset that can handle that resolution (or run at 800x600).
