I was at the doctor's office today, and while I was waiting, I picked up a Reader's Digest. (It was either that or a year old SI.
) There was a letter to the editor from this woman who complained that her last letter was "edited" before it was published. The editors had taken out the statements the woman made condemning Harry Potter for promoting "satanism and witchcraft."
She was so upset because it is such a "huge issue." The woman then informed them that because of Harry Potter's popularity, the "Church of Satan" now boasts over 14,000,000 child members. She cited this article as the source: Harry Potter, the Devil's Messenger .
The editor's reply informed the woman that The Onion is a satirical newspaper. Some people need serious help.
(In this poor do-gooder's defense, I did see one of the editors of The Onion on Letterman a while back. Apparantly one of the major newspapers had cited The Onion as a source in a story about the pope or something like that... lol)
