love how so many people don't get king of the hill humor. just makes me that much happier to watch it, knowing so few people appreciate the humor. i was once just like most of you, "OMG, KOTH SUCKS! FAMILY GUY PWNZ!!! STEWIE 4 EVA!!!" then finally i got it. koth is funny. really, really funny. and not just in redneck form, either. so go on hating it, you're just making me more smug about being able to enjoy it. 🙂

oh, btw: born & raised in los angeles, so about zero of the humor is stuff "you have to be a redneck" to understand.

i like family guy but sometime i get that feeling of "haven't i seen something similar to this is simpsons?"
but then king of the hill is like that too

How shows like Family Guy can get the can after only 50 episodes yet drivel like KOTH is going into season 9(!) with 171 under its belt is utterly astonishing.
 
I like King of the Hill and Family Guy Season 1 and some of 2.

Family Guy season 3 is just too riddled with homosexual undertones from the baby to be funny, and its too filled with musicals.

I'm not astonished at all. Everyone arguing that KOTH's material isn't understood by the majority of the population are ones who don't understand Family Guy's humor.

Any average person can pick up the humor in KOTH, thus it has survived the test of time. Not that all the jokes in Family Guy are hard to pick up on, but the genius in it has eluded the majority of the population and that is why it wasn't able to last.

they always market that pos cartoon between some two popular shows - ie simpsons and some sit-com.
FAmily guy got cancelled after the jewish episode (not that offensive imho) and the DVD sales made the execs pull their heads outta their asses
 
Family Guy was cancelled because Fox realized in Season 2 that they had something which was too Politically Incorrect even for their new image. That's why in Season 3 they kept playing "schedule football", changing around the time and day it was on, sometimes weekly. That way they were able to cancel it for poor ratings, instead of having to admit that there were some things too bad for their new "bad boy" image.

Of course times have changed, and the DVD sales certainly helped. Fox has realized if they don't deal with Seth like he deserves then he'll go to some cable network -- like Cartooon Network or Comedy Central -- where their standards are more relaxed and the pay is still good.

The reason King of the Hill is "popular" is because the average dog can understand their jokes, it requires no thinking or putting in context to understand them.
Family Guy, on the other hand has many more or less obscure pop culture references that some people just don't get. If you get (most of) them Family Guy is hillarious but I know some people who don't like FG just because they don't get the references.
 
Family Guy, no contest.

King of the Hill is pretty funny, and has some great episodes, but Family Guy is the best.

I think that the greatest example of this is still the very first episode when the Kool Aid guy busts through the court room wall. OHHH YAHHH!
 
I think they're both good shows. But nobody hates Family Guy, half the people on this planet hate King of the Hill.

good point, I pretty much despise KOTH in all honesty

How some people are entertained by that show for 30 minutes a sitting is beyond me, but to each his own I guess
