I tend to shy away from using 3rd party applications to do something this simple. The way I always do it is to log in as another user with admin privilages (such as the administrator account) or access the machine from the network and delete the 2 directories:

c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\temporary internet files
c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\history

Issue resolved.

thanks - this did work. logging in with a differnt account was the necessary step
 
Don't forget index.dat, which is a file which is used by IE to keep track of cookies, view settings, and web sites you've visited so IE knows which sites are in cache. It should be in the same directories.

If you wish to get rid of objectionable web history, perhaps Mozilla or Firefox (browsers) would be a good idea for you.
